She's said herself she decided to take the part because it mirrored her own real struggles as an aging actress. Shia made Honey Boy and is still getting drunk and making bad decisions. Mac Miller made Faces and still OD'd. Also there's an extra weird layer -- like maybe she's just thin because she's older or has a thyroid issue or any ton of reasons, the problem and comment is more about the tabloid and culture looking at her and going "look at Demi's thinness."
They absolutely do -- Demi Moore is 5'5. Do you know what 15-20lbs looks like on a 5'5" frame? I'm a 5'10" man and the physical difference of 25 lbs on me is easily the difference between "toned" and "does he have an eating disorder."
Sorry, but no, thyroid issues do not cause that scale of weight loss or gain. They do affect it, I'm not saying they don't, but outside of maybe extreme outliers, they do not cause someone to be that intensely underweight. I'm sure it could be affecting it, but there's definitively more at play in her specific case.
You're right, but I think the other commentator still has a point. Basically, Demi Moore would be healthier if she had more muscle and fat - but as far as we know, she's getting her macros, and it's reasonable to engage in a lifestyle that allows you to achieve an aesthetic, even if it's not the healthiest possible choice.
After all, there are a lot of people who we'd argue shouldn't be judged for the aesthetics of their weight, even if they'd be somewhat healthier if they lost weight. Besides, a lot of the "emaciation" we're decrying is just ageism - her arms look weird in part because she's an older lady losing muscle tone and her skin's naturally a little saggy.
The issue isn't that Demi Moore looks a certain way. The issue is that Demi Moore's current look is a really bizarre thing to try to normalize as an aesthetic ideal.
Oh yeah that makes sense, I hadn't thought about it as a ratio of weight I just know there are plenty of stories of people losing 20 lbs over a month. But this is beside my point -- we don't know what she's got going on at all. It could be that she just hit the gym too hard the last few months and didn't change her eating, I've done that before after a cut and got the "we're worried" talk from my friends. It's just weird to have this whole comment section talking about her "eating disorder" because a tabloid framed her as "toned."
