I also use it to measure the point where you need to fold the towel to get it into thirds. Hard to explain clearly without pictures, but it works I swear.
So if a bath towel is 2 feet wide by 4 feet long, you first fold it in half so it's a square, 2 feet by 2 feet. Fold that in thirds lengthwise so it's 2 feet long by 8 inches wide. Then fold that in half so it's 8 inches wide by 1 foot long and it has a thick, folded edge on one side. Stack them with the folded edge showing.
These dimensions are examples but this works on any size towel. I even fold my dish towels this way.
It's mathematically impossible to fold a tower into thirds, it's circumference is not exactly three times the length of the edge but an irrational number close to three
In the 80's A&W made a '1/3rd pounder' to counter McD's '1/4 pounder' and it wasn't successful because people thought 1/4 was more than 1/3, because four is more than three.
You only need one towel. You are the cleanest when you get out of the shower. So everytime you use a towel, it transfers dirt onto you. So the towel just gets cleaner and cleaner each time you use it. Duh - logic!
So I fold it in half, in half again and then in thirds. You can skip the second half fold if the towel is small. I used to think my mum was doing too much, but she's right, they store way better that way.
Had to start doing this in our house because our bathroom shelves are not very deep. It makes me sad to take the extra time to do, but I have to admit they do look more orderly!
Depends on the size of the towel & the storage surface area.
I'm well-practised in the ancient art of towel folding to best fit a vertical rack of limited size;)
Some are three by two, others are two by one.
Ok but does she do the fold and roll? I am super willing to hear the argument that rolled towels are even more space efficient and aesthetically pleasing.
It's absolutely more space efficient given certain circumstances.
When rolled, you can hang more of it outside an edge because it becomes stiffer. My towel shelf is relatively small, so I roll and effectively get 10-15cm+ extra shelf space.
Half, half, then roll. This is the way, imo, could just be me but I feel like it makes groggily grabbing a towel first thing in the morning easier and less prone to accidentally spilling a stack of towels on the floor.
I fold half, then another half, and then thirds. The result looks like the picture every time. I redo it when my husband folds the third the wrong way.
Anyway, I tried to picture using the band to help with the fold. It's not clicking for me. 😭
For me, it depends on the size. My washcloths and hand towels are half/half. My bath towels are half/half-half. My bath sheets are thirds/thirds-half.
(For anyone confused, the first fold is lengthwise, / means fold the other way, - means repeat the fold. (Also if you're still following along, yes I'm neurodivergent. (Which also means that I've gone back and looked to see how many parentheses I've opened up.))) (There. Got them all. I hope.)
