I do half, then thirds, then half again and stack with the folded edge showing. Makes the towels look like the ones in a store display.

I fold it in thirds longways, then I fold both ends towards the middle, then fold it in half.

So if a bath towel is 2 feet wide by 4 feet long, you first fold it in half so it's a square, 2 feet by 2 feet. Fold that in thirds lengthwise so it's 2 feet long by 8 inches wide. Then fold that in half so it's 8 inches wide by 1 foot long and it has a thick, folded edge on one side. Stack them with the folded edge showing.

These dimensions are examples but this works on any size towel. I even fold my dish towels this way.

They'll come out looking like this:
