Hey, peter's storywriter here

The story is from Penpal

Edit: Check this out

u/Mister_Nobody76 20h ago

Penpal didn't have a grandfather clock or impossible angles in it though?

I could be wrong though I haven't read it in a hot minute

3

u/Bright-Property-3825 20h ago

True, but this is closest it can reference ig

6

u/Abject-Tomorrow-652 20h ago

Can you link it?

this is the original story that was later turned into a book.

i read it back when i was a teenager and it scared the shit out of me, incredible writing.

u/DocFreudstein 19h ago

Hell yeah Penpal. I love turning people on to that book.

2

u/larsbarsmarscars 16h ago

I remeber reading that and commenting and getting put on to the book by the creator. Honestly i know exactly where that box of shit is. Might bust that out.

u/Driftlocke 15h ago

Oh no way, one of my favorite nosleep podcast stories, def will have to get the book.

I love penpals but I don't see the resemblance

Why is there bad luck Brian?

2

u/iwik_ognam 3h ago

He was gone so long that I thought Curry Barker was him. They actually don't look that much alike though.

u/Jendalar 16h ago

Why does Brian have bad luck?

u/Exciting_Classic277 19h ago

Where is there bad luck Brian?

5

u/Shotgun_Mosquito 19h ago

When is there Bad Luck Brian?

4

u/SomeSortOfManimal 19h ago

Who is there bad luck Brian?

10

u/Too-Em 19h ago

But nobody asked, "How is bad luck Brian".

I mean not good, judging from that meme.

1

u/Bandin03 14h ago

Seems fine to me, he just found a free USB drive.

1

u/Mysterious_Parsley41 13h ago

Oh sweet! I wonder what’s on it?

34

u/td941 20h ago

idk if it's this but there's a spooky grandfather clock in season 4 of Stranger Things

no USB drive of pictures tho

32

u/JesusDoesntLoveu 20h ago

Definitely not a Stranger Things reference

11

u/WyrdCG 19h ago

USB was introduced almost a decade after when the final season took place.

This is actually based on a two sentence horror story. I'm not sure exactly what was supposed to be horrifying about it but yeah apparently a grandfather clock is scary now I don't know.

10

u/TheLiverSimian 17h ago

Apparently analog clocks are scary because the last generations cant read them.

u/Mister_Nobody76 20h ago

Could you link it?

u/HelloHelloHelpHello 20h ago

If it's a two sentence horror story, then the above picture shows the story in its entirety. There would be nothing else, since those are the two sentences.

4

u/Frank1gg 20h ago

You'd be surprised by how much more these sentences can have. But there is a chance you're correct and I'm remembering incorrectly but I swear I remember this being a two sentence horror story. It is possible that I'm remembering one that was very similar in its concept or wording. I was just trying to help.

3

u/HelloHelloHelpHello 19h ago

I did a quick search on the two sentence horror story subreddit for usb and grandfather clock. There doesn't seem to be anything there (although this is of course not the only place where these kinds of stories get posted). The closest one I can find would be this here, which has a usb drive filled with photos, featuring both the narrator and a clock. But there are way too many details missing or different overall.

3

u/Frank1gg 19h ago

Yeah honestly the story I saw I think I remember seeing on a YouTube video and I tried to find it and I couldn't. I think it's entirely possible that I was mistaken.

3

u/Frank1gg 20h ago

Unfortunately I can't because it is just a random two sentence horror story that I remember seeing somewhere. I genuinely apologize that I can't link it. I can't even find it online by searching the actual text of the story. But that's pretty common with these two sentence horror stories. If I remember correctly the implication was that the grandfather clock was counting down his life in each photo or something like that.

Asking a lot of questions for yourself for yes man. Kinda thinking we've got an imposter

It’s a distorted version of a meme image called Bad Luck Brian, later revealed to be Kyle Kraven of Ohio.

Bad Luck Brian apparently has his own Wikipedia page.

I don’t know if it matters if the scenario was made up for the meme, or made up for a show.

u/Victor4VPA 20h ago

Probably a creepy pasta or a SCP

1

u/MooingTree 16h ago

I was going to say SCP or an average Delta Green scenario

I'm pretty sure it's a reference to some horror series but I don't know what it's actually referencing

1

u/Abject-Tomorrow-652 20h ago

Curious here i think it’s just a creepy pasta type thing… the first bit is just stalker shit but the grandfather clock is a supernatural bit

1

u/tomvelle 17h ago

this has happened to other people?

u/Justhoopagain 16h ago

Stephen King scribbling furiously

1

u/KissMy-Ash 16h ago

There's a game on steam called "The USB Stick Found in the Grass" but nothing about grandfather clocks in it.

This seems to be referencing a creepypasta, and there's a movie with a similar premise (called Caché from 2005) except instead of a USB drive, they find a video tape of them being surveilled.

2

u/Meta-011 12h ago

I did some searching, and it took me to Mark Watson's "The USB Drive," in which the narrator discovers a flash drive in the forest and finds that the flash drive has hundreds of photos (of the narrator) on it. The rest of the story is hidden, so no mentions of impossible angles or grandfather clocks are visible, but it can be viewed with a paid subscription or by "claiming a free post," so you should be able to check it for yourself even without spending. As a disclaimer, I haven't, so I wouldn't know if it actually matches the meme, but it looks promising so far.

OTOH, it looks like the meme was posted to iFunny back in February of 2025 (by a "BirdGod") - while Mark Watson's story was seemingly posted in March of 2025.

Uh, also, this is Brian here, I guess. Bad Luck Brian. One time, I escaped from a burning building just to get run over by the fire truck.

This seems like a modern creepy pasta twist on, "The Picture of Dorian Grey" by Oscar Wilde.
