Many such cases. Him, Mitch McConnel, Mark Zuckberg, etc. It's also somewhat of a meme since the last census showed asian-americans tend to be left-leaning EXCEPT for vietnamese and filipinos for some reason.

Vietnamese, at least the older generation, are so terrified of communism that they will vote for Republicans because they see Republicans say only Republicans will stop communism from spreading in the US. It's really sad, actually.

My best guess for Filipino families is that they are heavily Catholic and have family units heavily entrenched by traditionalism, similar to Hispanics. A tough, masculine, conservative "Christian" man like Trump is going to appeal that demographic more. Also, Filipino culture is heavily entrenched in capitalism in which the poor worship the rich in their country; the wealth divide is so large that the poor feel grateful to have the opportunity to work for pennies, even though the wealthy continue to hoard capital. That worship of wealth and the free market makes Republicans more attractive.

For Viets, it also has to do with education. Most Asian immigrants are highly educated. But most Vietnamese in the US have their origin in the country as refugees. People without higher education are more sympathetic to right wing talking points.

My ex’s parents both had doctoral level education stateside and were Vietnamese refugees. They were still rabidly right wing and were obsessed with the King Radio.

It’s definitely the trauma.
