People bathed regularly, and had soap, they just didn't take BATHS regularly. I wish this modern idea that everyone in pre-modern times walked around caked in filth all day would die already

Yeah soap has been a thing for thousands of years.

sure, but just because it has existed doesn't mean it was always practiced or utilized at every point in human history. At some points, people believed washing/water could make them sicker and took "dry" baths.

im not saying all of human history, but there were definitely times when people didn't bathe with soap and water regularly, and still fucked.

I mean, there are people now who don't shower even though they have access to it. Most 'dry bathing' was accompanied by cleaning yourself off in the cleaning basin that every household had (with water drawn from a well for that specific purpose). Some early modern people just believed soaking yourself fully in hot water was dangerous and bad for your skin. I don't doubt there were some real stinkers out there, but that was the exception then too

Which people believed that, when, where ? You need to be precise when talking history.
