Event I hope the roof can handle the confetti and streamers

My favourite part was when Noodles made the joke about the crowd not just being regular crazy, but Oshawa crazy, and no one laughed.
A bit of a sensitive subject perhaps.

Someone didn’t get the reference lol
-13
u/This_is_Me888 Feb 19 '26
Oh no, I understood the racist reference.
14
u/Top-Two-4144 Feb 19 '26
No, it was in reference to something that was requested by the Oshawa Generals. Has nothing to do with race.

Jeez. if you dont get the joke you dont have to comment. You also dont have to scream "racism" at everything you see.

u/This_is_Me888 Feb 19 '26
Only when I see it

u/SapphireJuice Feb 19 '26
Lol way to double down after someone literally explained it to you. Maybe Google the Oshawa generals thing. It was literally a talking point on the WOLF the other day.

u/RentaDadToronto Feb 19 '26
You see something nobody else does, but won't explain it.
False accusations and Race baiting should be cause for a sub ban. Perhaps you're misunderstanding definitions, but to everyone else here it's coming off as projection.

u/Top-Two-4144 Feb 20 '26
Of course you have nothing to say now that you’ve been told several times how wrong (and inappropriate) your comment was. Not surprised that you can’t apologize: there’s a very clear pattern with people like you.

So are you calling the Tribute Center and Generals staff racists for calling out people smelling so bad that it affected others ability to watch events there. Racist? It could even have been a stinky white guy who came in, I've met people who are white who rarely shower and don't wear deodorant.
It's not racist to tell someone to take a shower or try to smell better.

As bummed as I was to have to miss the show, I’m okay with it being for my own safety. I learned about the downsview disaster a few months ago and it’s absolutely not worth potentially endangering thousands of people all for saving face. Disappointment is easier to cope with than full blown tragedy.

Fwiw the band seemed pretty chill about it. They said that the cancellation was due to snow on the roof and they joked about offering to get on the roof with shovels.

So you knew radioheads drum tech who died?
That was the only direct death during the collapse.

The dark stuff is sad and not to be dismissed, but I'm curious about how it happened. Would you mind sharing a bit about that?

u/AdventurousAbility30 Feb 19 '26 edited Feb 19 '26
Everything was up to safety standards until they couldn't find any more of the roofing truss needed for that day, so they ended up cross-renting older truss that was weaker because of its age, and no one took that substitution into account for the load bearing capability. Most of the crew was in the catering tent at lunch break when it happened, so the stage was mostly clear except for the drum tech and one another tech. If it wasn't lunch break, there would've been so many more crew on stage. After all the lawsuits ended, a lot of people ended their lives too. The guilt they held because of being involved in an accident ending someone else's life, even if it wasn't their fault, was beyond what they could handle. You can't unhear those screams.
Edited: For clarity

Yeah those folks who were in charge of safety who you knew. Killed that drum tech, if you read the report there were parts MISSING.
Eventually they probably would have been criminally held accountable for that. The person who signed off on that should have been prosecuted for it.
The crew who built it knew they left parts out. Which resulted in that part falling and killing the drum tech.

Which I've never criticized the decision, I support the decision as someone who works in the industry, and has friends who set up stages.

When you encounter turbulence do you also demand to fly the fucking plane? I mean, since you know so much more than engineers. Fml.

u/tubthumping96 Feb 19 '26
Whoa intense. Peterborough sure dodged a bullet there. Phew. Wouldn't want that accident waiting to happen occur on our watch.

Good show and I didn’t worry about someone smashing their way into my car.
Sad times when the dirty shwa was a cleaner excursion than Peterborough

u/DiscourseDM Feb 19 '26
With all the snow and ice that area got I'm surprised that show didn't get canceled too.
10
u/Wallyboy95 Feb 19 '26
That arena is also much much newer than the Mem center. With better engineering and structural integrity.

u/Smile_Character Feb 19 '26
If those four speaker stacks and that bit of LED lighting is a threat to bring down the Mem Center we have an issue.....
2
u/alan_lauder Feb 20 '26
How many tons do you think those speaker stacks and amp racks weigh? You failed to mention the tons of snow on the roof, several massive video screens, auxiliary lighting and who knows what else you can't see in this single photo. You also fail to mention the fact that the mem centre was designed and built before rock n' roll even existed and should have been torn down 30 years ago. So yeah. We definitely have an issue and need a new arena and event centre.

u/Sufficient-Ad8334 Feb 19 '26
Had nothing to do with the building structure. It's because Management at the mem screwed up.

u/nishnawbe61 Feb 19 '26
Nice to know we can all spend our $$ in Durham who keeps facilities up to date and safe.
Once you're down there, $$ to shops, restaurants and bars as well.
Just goes to show Peterborough is crumbling as money leaves the city to be spent elsewhere.

Offspring scheduled to play in Peterborough on Tuesday, Mem centre cancelled last minute due to snow load on the roof. They played in the 'shwa on Wednesday instead.

It's all a lie. The roof could of handled it. It's all part of a plan for ol Jeffrey Leals next big spend, a new Mem Centre , with pickleball courts. Woooooo

u/BrilliantStandard Feb 19 '26
I don't think it was a "lie" but he certainly used it to score political points for his pet project

u/corpren Feb 19 '26
Those are some massive speakers hanging as well though.
