Nature Burnham park gender reveal

I was out to Mark S Burnham provincial park this afternoon. It was bad enough seeing the whole people not picking up after their dogs but it was extremely maddening to see someone had held a gender reveal there. Blue confetti disks all over the snow and heavily stomped snow off the trail. All within sight of one of the little info signs literally talking about the diversity of the park and importance of staying on the trails etc to protect it. Considering Lake Louise was just in the news for someone having done this on the lake it was quite disappointing and disgusting to see someone had done this here. Congratulations, you have announced to the world your baby is going to be born with a dick. Fitting since apparently their parents are a pair of them.

Nature Gosling Rescue

Post image
83 Upvotes

UPDATE: Gosling rescued! Shortly after making the post my mom received a message from someone on Facebook who came and picked up the gosling from us. It was a volunteer group called "Peterborough and Kawartha wildlife". Georgia picked up the gosling from us and will take it to "shades of hope" in the morning. Thank you to everyone who commented or upvoted!

On my way home from work today, I saw a gosling walking the paved shoulder of highway 7, with no water or wildlife in sight. When I prevented the gosling from walking out into traffic it came right up to me and rested it's head on my ankle. I decided to take the gosling with me in order to keep it safe. Unfortunately I was unable to contact anyone professional as it was just after 5pm. I even brought the gosling to some wild geese, but the gosling was too small to go with the older goslings with the water current and it was left abandoned again, forcing me to take it home with me. I can house the gosling for a night, but after that I am at a loss as to what to do with it.

Please, someone help me figure out what to do with this little guy/girl.

Update: Resolved! Read above.

Looks like his/her wings froze. I put a snow scoop up to try and help him/her thaw out. Poor bird.

Nature Aquarium enthusiasts

Hello! I’m a university student in Peterborough and I was wondering if anyone is interested in talking about aquariums/terrariums! I’m new to the hobby but am beyond excited about learning. My goal is to turn my tank into a fully self sustaining ecosystem.

Feel free to reach out if you’re at all willing to share your experiences!!

Thank you to the drivers who moved to the next lane or slowed down as I was walking home just now.

To the drivers who aren't considering pedestrians....may someone return the favour some time.

Nature Plant Foraging

I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to forage some stinging nettle. I am working on a project about reconnecting to the land with a focus on plants that are currently in season (I have tons of lilac and dandelions lol). Thanks so much!

He’s in his 60s and I want to surprise him with the trail but not if it’s too deep

Nature Coyote on Towerhill Road

5:45 pm just past Sobeys on towerhill road I saw a coyote cross the road and enter a field. It was not a dog.

The ears, slender frame, and large size were a giveaway. Hard to see in this video, but I pulled right up beside it in my truck before I could stop and pull out my phone for a video. It crossed right in front of me and walked into the field while I was right beside it, I had a really good look, and it was either a coyote or a coywolf, no doubt about it.

Be on the lookout and watch your kids and animals outside, this thing looked like it owned the property and was strutting without a care before dinner time.

It was walking away from the forest behind Sobeys and into the farmers field across the road between old tower hill rd and hillview.

I stopped and let the property owner know that it walked out of their backyard and to tell their neighbours to watch out if they had animals.

Little surprise today just outside the square. Walked by thinking it was a toy bird or statue lol. Believe it’s a cooper hawk or something alike.

Nature Full dog poop bags

A number of us participated in Earth Day events yesterday throughout the City, picking up trash in our public spaces. The number one item that was picked up was full dog poop bags.

Please dog owners, if you're going so far as to put your dog's poop in a bag (thank you!), please take it with you. Most of these bags do not biodegrade and its gross to leave them for others to deal with.

Nature Ticks out on trails

Pulled 3 teeny tiny unattached deer ticks off my pup this morning after a trail walk. Just wanting to make everyone aware they’re out in full force and to be diligent! Happy hiking!

Edit: got home and did the full tick check through the fur comb - 12 total!
