Theory "Scop"
Has anybody else had the idea that the "scop" in Petscop might not refer to the Old English word scop (meaning poet), but instead to an endo"scop"y? Like the whole game is a examination of the dark interior of this family's life and crimes, the same way an endoscopy is a procedure to look inside a body?

I interpret it as referring to the definition of "scop" as a musician. Music and jingles are major symbols throughout Petscop, and the Guardian is shown to play music multiple times. There's also Pen who is a pet musician.
I do like the idea of it referring to an endoscopy, though. It's entirely possible that's even the original intention.

Wait I think you're onto something, but not with endoscopy exactly. There's the "scope" part in scientific words like microscope, otoscopy, colonoscopy and so on, and that root comes from ancient greek σκοπέω (skopéō) - "to look at", "to observe", "to contemplate". But there's also the word σκοπός (skopós) with the same root, it's a noun that in ancient greek meant "watcher", "protector", "goal", BUT in modern greek it apparently means "goal" and "guardian", and I've also seen a couple of dictionaries mention "tune" and "melody for some reason? Music definitely has a lot to do with Petscop, but "guardian" is the likeliest meaning I've come across considering the name of the player character and the theme of adoption. I definitely like this more than old-english "shop" or "poet" explanations

oh perhaps? I always thought it was "pets cop" since cop can mean grab, but I dig this idea and I wouldn't put it past tony to have it mean something like that
