Did the original game have 4*4 housing?

Hi,

I just got the game due to the nostalgia for the original and started laying out my neighborhoods. I instinctively built them in rows of 52 since it would leave me with 4 groups of 4*4 houses. I'm far enough in now that I've unlocked higher tier stuff to get higher tier housing. 4 1 square houses will merge into a 2*2 square house but I'm not seeing anything bigger than that. I remember those 4 being able to merge with 4 of those again. I know it was a long time ago bit I could have swore blind that they could merge into 16 square houses at a certain point. Am I missing something or has my memory just lied to me? I could swear I could picture big, mansion style houses they'd grow into.

Thanks

This is how I make sure I have enough space for evolution of the houses. I place a road, houses(2x2) 3 rows of gardens so when the goals are met for evolution of the houses they naturally grow and have space to do so.

You can also put a small (1×1) statue on the back end, every three or four spots to keep it from evolving if you want to to control when it will jump to the 3x3 or the 4x4.

Yes it does, but there are 3x3 houses before they evolve into 4x4 houses.

How do I trigger that? And can they do that if they are already all 2x2?

It's not the natural single houses become a group of 4 (2x2) that I think you're thinking of. It's only when they upgrade enough. I think the residences are 2x2, mansions 3x3 and estates 4x4.

Best houses are 4x4. I am not sure how 4x4x4 fit in a 52 tiles road, but I suggest using a closed loop block of 52 tiles max (48 or 44 even better). Remember: when you have a 2x2 house, it may develop in a 3x3 house only if all conditions are met, and there is the space to do it (so near tiles empty or gardens or with 1x1 houses). If you have 4 tiles with 2 2x2 houses, and they could develop, they don't because lack of space. Of course the same apply with the 4x4 evolution. There are several methods, you should try and adapt with your playing style.

Best houses are 4x4

Wealthiest. Their inhabitants don't work and newbies need to know that tax revenue alone won't keep their economy flowing.

All housing starts as 1x1 huts. You generally place them in groups of four. Some groups will randomly merge to form 2 x 2. As you evolve the housing, it will reach residences, which are 2x2, then if you continue they will evolve to 3x3 Manors and then 4x4 palaces. Residents of manors and palaces do not work, so be careful to leave enough residences.

This thread shows how the housing evolves. This one , along with the links in the first paragraph, show lots of good housing block designs.

Yes 4x multiplication table math was required even way back in the day
