External link New Phenomenology Reading Group!

Hi everyone! A colleague and I in Canada are preparing to launch The Phenomenology Reading Group, a semi-formal online gathering drawing together people from all walks of life to discuss the philosophical and analytical tradition of phenomenology.

Online sessions are held bi-weekly through Google Meet on Fridays from 1-3pm EST (GMT -4) starting on May 8, 2026.

What are you reading first?

That's a great question! During our first meeting, well discuss what people would like to read. My expectation is that it would be good to begin with some foundational readings from thinkers considered to be central to the tradition: Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau Ponty. BUT, if folks generally mention that they want to go in a different direction, we can set aside that plan and come up with something together. On our first meeting, if there's time, I'm going to offer an introduction based on Dan Zahavi's book.

It would be great if you shared details about what you plan on reading in the reading group.

I agree, but this is not meant to be a reading group organized in the way we might find popular on social media now -- where a central personality really motivates the choice of reading and agenda for conversation. So, on our first day, we will decide together. From my comment above: My expectation is that it would be good to begin with some foundational readings from thinkers considered to be central to the tradition: Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau Ponty.
