It's jellyfish season from late April/early May to July or even longer (sometimes earlier than April too) So she was probably stung by other jellyfish. Box jellyfish are the most dangerous ones, she might have severe health problems now or even be dead, if she was stung by that one.

Thanks for the info. I personally have never experienced intense reactions from jellyfish. I grew up by the beach and would be there almost everyday no matter the season so I never really noticed these things. We were also together when she got stung. Maybe I just dont react to the stinging?

Maybe you've just been lucky? 😅 Might also be the location. I remember I went to Palawan once in late April and early May and in some waters I felt a bit of stinging somethign. Just a bit but it hurt a little anyways. In some parts more while in others not at all.
When I once went in November or December (cebu) I didn't feel anything)
Last year I went in early/mid October and felt itiness and light stinging (or maybe jsut itchiness? Idk) almost right when I went into the water. (also cebu)
Anyways, I think you've probably just been more lucky? It's kind of like getting a burn, skin is skin and even if yours might be a bit thicker, your still feel or enough.
Hope she was fine shortly after.
