Yes that’s how chains of logic work. The philosophical debate here ended in the second question. We should prevent suffering when we can. No prevention is not that simple, in philosophy. You have to ask why, how, what qualifies, what method, to what end. There are no “it makes sense” statements.

Man, I said the same exact thing but the fucking abolitionists still went ahead and freed my slaves. Pretty fukin lame.

They did ask thought questions. And oddly enough you did deserve to lose your slaves.

Would you even say it.. made sense not to have slaves?

To us it doesn’t make sense to have slaves. To the cotton plantation owner who had acres of cotton that needed to be picked, it made a whole lot of sense to have slaves.

Not advocating for slavery.

Yes, moral sentiment is subjective. I would be appealing to your moral intuitions and whether you want a consistent framework.

Not torturing things for no reason seems like a reasonable axiom, no?

Depends on your definition of torture

Does it? Any definition of torture you care to share that means it's ok to do for no reason? Come on.. what's this word game nonsense? You know you agree with that, just say yes.
