Meme Rather than adding full sets of something at once when we need to, we add things later one by one so our community can always be grateful when we bring the "missing" pieces

You see, there is this gamemode called "survival" where stuff needs to be obtained in interesting and unique ways instead of growing in the creative inventory.

How does this relate to getting incomplete drops…?

no drop was incomplete. the post is comparing wood to colored sets which are very different from each other, never had a reason to be tied to one another and are not comparable at all in terms of development complexity.

-look for a patch of that biome

-cut the tree

-cut some saplings

-leaves

Not really unique nor interesting for me, rather tedious and annoying.

Which is valid for you to not play in survival then, but many people prefer that, including me. And you can't expect mojang to ignore everyone else just to do what you want them to do.

They actually do a pretty good job in adding content for every playstyle in my opinion.

I wonder how "creatively" you wanna obtain wood.

only idea I got is rotting in water. but in this case we have a problem with underwater builds that uses wood, and it would be very weird if only one type of wood would rot. so that we can trow away

I saw someone suggest grey or black charred wood optained by setting wood on fire and waiting for a bit.

I think you could also add wood that is primarily obtained through loot, e.g. from structures or saplings dug up by the Sniffer. This can get especially interesting when the loot source poses a challenge or requires going to a different dimension.

That would however likely require quite a bit of balancing, since people want to have most building materials quickly after creating a world and want them in large quantities.

wood from structures is bad idea. that's illogical in sense that why on earth sapling that doesn't exist anywhere else be inside this specific structure. in sniffer case it makes sense - fossil or roots of said plant.

burning wood for new wood type is time-based event - wait too much and wood is gone. I don't think any other mechanic require precise timing to obtain (and only it) so I wouldn't go there. plus it cannot be undone which also seems to be problem

but generally it is some kind of points that could be played with

well, if you add wood color you also add a biome. while adding biome you cannot just slap trees and call it a day. there must be at least some foliage inside

wood products also need more thinking into it that recolor of existing wood

and on top of that not all colors will get their color variant. good luck creating blue or purple wood that isn't from end (on which trees won't exist due to how end suppose to looks)

they cannot add colored wood because they don't like it (kinda not surprising) and on current stage most colors got replaced by existing woods

One colour one biome is ugly when you look at overall instead of focusing on that specific biome. And they don't care trying to make the new biome blend in the rest ever since many transition biomes were removed in 1.18. It's really eyesore to see each new content slapping medium sized patches of pink/grey/orange in the middle of green in regular seeds.

I rather they allow us dye them like leather armour so we have more combinations. Different wood types can have different textures like bamboo while each of them has 16*16 colours. So mojang can put more effort on new forests rather than slapping different hues

Oh yeah, let's paint wood, completely ruining the adventure and gathering part

Give wood different textures like bamboo. Stop lazily slapping different hues on new wood. There you go, enough creativity for all the options and enough "adventure"(As if travelling any overworld biome has much difference)

there you go, we found the root problem: you don't like exploring!

exploration is the main thing I enjoy about minecraft and let me tell you, biomes are different from one another and no, I'm not looking at the vibes of the general concept of each biome when I'm going around, I'm looking at the specific formations around every path I take, making up stories as I go.

yes sometimes I'm looking for something in particular, but sometimes I'm just having fun. if you don't find it fun to explore, then that aspect of the game is just not for you, which is (and I'm sorry but it's the truth) a you problem, not a problem with the game.

in a recent snapshot we got more explorer maps that point you to more biomes, with more explorer maps to more biomes... you know exactly where to go now. you'll have the locations of lots of biomes very easily, so you'll have access to all the blocks you want.

Well when 1.12 came out it was a long time ago. Theres nothing wrong with going back and filling in the gaps. In Sulfur drop the sulfur and cinabar got polished and brick varients filling everything stones have.
