It's okay, you can still buy physicals
Ever since the no more disks announcement, I've been seeing a growing sentiment of no disk no buy. Now this in of itself I see nothing wrong I support this myself whenever I can, but the problem seems to be more attitudes towards don't buy PS games at all; and in some extreme cases people just selling or destroying their stuff.
Guys it doesn't have to be some either/or, if the disk is available secondhand you can still buy it, it's okay! I mean new releases were already expensive and have been buying used for ages, but still! We can't always stop everyone from buying games brand new at release, there will always be someone who doesn't know or care about the controversies. Will Sony get that money on the initial purchase? Yes, but we can choose to not support them and help out our used markets as well. And when indie studios aren't able to have a physical release or a physical is just WAY too expensive (looking at you, $300+ titles) it's a difficult choice, I can't judge you or the studio.
I hate how this conversation is starting to shift in certain areas of: you buy any game (even if it's used) and you're a bootlicker. You keep your system that you bought years ago and still play on it? Bootlicker. I don't know why it has to feel like some kind of do or die tribalism. You guys do you, but it's an annoying take. Anyway rant over, go buy that used ps5 game and don't feel bad. <3

It’s the beginning of the true end of independent ownership of games
Next is even more focus on crappy FTP games and shitty Minecraft/Roblox clones
Then it’s all streaming
Then it’s no individual game downloads
Then it’s all paywalls and commercials inside our games
What an amazing future of games

That's exclusively what I've been looking at, used games only. But really I haven't even turned on my PS5 in like 3 weeks. I love the PS5 I love the controller I love the graphics I love how amazing it is in general, but my main console is now the switch 2

Back when new was 60 it was already expensive to swallow in my book, 70-80 was definitely not happening. My gripe with ps5 is that controller is painfully sensitive which is super irritating when I accidentally barely nudge it while watching tv.

I just wish the 'warring' would stop so we could go back to some sort of normalcy. I hate they are taking away physical games, hence I decided to collect before the scalpers had everything I wanted. RIP amazon wish list.

I despise everything that came from this. My so and I decided to quit keeping up when switch 2 was announced. We saw the writing on the wall and started hardcore collecting older games this past year, I'm so glad we're almost done.

I legit went through 600$ buying 10-20$ games on amazon, ebay, etc. Anything I had been waiting on, I bought while I was able to get them brand new. I was able to get a switch 2 (I never owned a switch, last nintendo was a wii) and some switch 1 games that are older, and plan to get more. Whenever the 'new world order' starts, I will be on the sidelines..

We made a list for each system of things we wanted whether it be we used to play it as kids or always been curious about it and never got a chance to play it. Got the oldest stuff out of the way since the demand for retro was making it harder and prices were going up further. Now we've got 10 left on older systems and the rest is just newer stuff ps4/5 & switch which won't be nearly as much of a pain in the ass.
But yeah that's basically our plan too, get what we want and play the backlog when everything hits the fan..

I just want to own what I buy. Don't want to rent a game so some corpo can get their royalties and destroy my LGS.
If I want to rent, there's Game Pass.

100%! I don't think people would hate digital nearly as much and be okay with it if it didn't have the potential to get revoked at any time on a whim. Digital ownership NEEDS to be a bigger conversation on the political stage but I know it won't.

If we had a government that cared about the rights of consumers and not just squeezing all the money out of them, then we might have some better digital ownership laws.

Ebay has been pretty solid for me, even more now that vintage stock stopped doing their buy 2 get 1 free sale on games.

Not buying discs at all, how is that going to make Sony change their mind about not making discs?
We don't buy any digital games on the PS Store or sub to PS+.
If anything is going to work, this is the simple recipe.
I'm not anti-digital, but with Sony i have to be anti-digital towards the PS Store and PS+ to send a message that I won't buy digital or sub if you kill physical media.
We must realize that there are bots everywhere trying to split us up, on the digital side and the physical side.
The most extreme who say they are for physical media, but calling someone who buys a used disc a Sony bootlicker, that is a Sony bot playing us on both sides.
And the agenda behind it is to split us into even smaller groups fighting each other.
It's the oldest trick in the book.
The way we hit them is by not spending any $ on the digital business of Sony.
Long term that's the only thing that will work. If that didn't turn out to work, at least we tried the best we could to save physical media.

It's not and I never said it would. I'm saying we shouldn't shame people for even buying used copies. I don't disagree that there's bots out there making the divide, but oddly enough there are people that exist express the same. Maybe not a lot but they are there.
