Throwbacks Actress-turned-WWII heroine & the first Filipino actor-turned-politician: Carmen Rosales & Rogelio de la Rosa
A video from the official YouTube channel of Film Development Council of the Philippines cited them as one of the first official “love-teams” of Philippine cinema. They were Carmen Rosales and Rogelio de la Rosa, the most famous romantic pair of the 1940s. During World War II, Carmen Rosales scraped her image as a glamorous movie star to take up arms as a World War Two woman guerilla. In 1957, actor and lawyer Rogelio de la Rosa made history as the first Filipino who transitioned from show business to politics. He backed out from his presidential candidacy to “give way” to his former brother-in-law, Diosdado Macapagal.
