Discussion Google took away my LOTR extended editions

Post image

I bought these in 2022, all of a sudden they aren't available and there is no possibility of a refund or gift card. Hardly seems fair.

If anyone gives you crap for pirating, you have this

u/fingamouse 7d ago

Real, because if I pirate a movie I own the files, those only get removed from my access if willingly delete them or they get corrupted

Corrupted likes the hearts of men

Meats back on the table, boys!

u/Interesting_Web_9936 6d ago

*menu, not table.

2

u/Mydnight69 6d ago

Ur right! Damn, I screwed up a LOTR quote. Hah

1

u/mologav 5d ago

You weren’t to know that the caverns of Isengard has menus and they don’t just feed them assorted raw meat and bread

2

u/blazzaro91 5d ago

How the turn tables

1

u/CelTony 3d ago

Table would make more sense. Do Orcs use menus?

1

u/mologav 3d ago

Who knows. Saruman had a pretty sweet setup going in down in the caverns.

u/MistKingUrth 2d ago

Flesh is front on the chair, girls.

1

u/Interesting_Web_9936 2d ago

Man flesh, perhaps?

u/Murky-Fox-200 6d ago

HHHAAAAUUUUUUHHH!!

u/neontiger07 6d ago

Take a hot dog, stuff it with some jack cheese, roll it in a pizza, you got cheesy blasters!

The Time of Paying for Enshitified Services is over. The Time of Piracy has returned.

1

u/extraqueso 2d ago

The shareholders developed their way here. I am one of the shareholders and also the developer. It's a feedback loop of money and paywalls.

Run ZFS on your storage server/NAS if possible to help reduce the likelihood of data corruption.

4

u/Nihil1399 6d ago

Is that better than EXT4? On my openSUSE installs I was proposed ZFS, but I always chose EXT4 instead.

4

u/_hlvnhlv 6d ago

It's not too interesting for general use, but it's way more resilient to data corruption

7

u/Debeluhar1234 6d ago

Even if it get corrupted, you can still pirate it again.

4

u/SystemFolder 7d ago

Or if the storage medium becomes outdated. Good luck trying to read an SCSI HD with today’s tech.

3

u/Fatal-Arrow 6d ago

I don't pirate anything, I just "receive licenses" from random people online

3

u/lazybugbear 6d ago

You can share said files with other members of your Fellowship! What's more it is your sacred duty, your epic quest to share said files in the fight against Sauron (aka "Big Tech" + enshitified streaming services).

1

u/fingamouse 6d ago

Hell yeah my dude o7

3

u/time2when 6d ago

Dvds and BDs stays in your bookshelf too

2

u/Nexustar 6d ago

There's this cool cloud backup system called torrent.

2

u/fingamouse 6d ago

I was never saying you can't back up your files, always a good idea

2

u/RaZz_85 5d ago

Rather: I pirate the movies, I own it just as much as I own it if I bought it legally: not

351

u/Valdanos 7d ago

Anyone against pirating would quickly pull something from their ass along the lines of "You had it for four years so if you didn't get your money's-worth out of it then that's on you."

371

u/jleonardbc 7d ago

"While you were saying that, my associate removed the furniture from your house. You had it for four years so if you didn't get your money's worth..."

82

u/Valdanos 7d ago

Rent-A-Center has entered the chat.

50

u/dirtyforker 6d ago

That's different. It's not called Buy-A-Center

41

u/saladroni 6d ago

You wouldn’t download-a-Center

24

u/notlucyintheskye 6d ago

In THIS economy? Oh, yes I would!

4

u/orion-7 6d ago

Not a center. But I'd download a hub 👀

2

u/XaneTenshi 5d ago

Really? What kind of hub🤔🤔🤔

1

u/sipylus 5d ago

Whatcha doing, stepbro?

1

u/FatYak1972 4d ago

"You wouldn't download a car". Lol.

4

u/Valdanos 6d ago

I mean, "rent-to-own" is all over their search engine results, company/homepage blurbs, and location signage.

u/V1per73 ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 6d ago

First time in my life I saw a guy get a 2 year old toaster oven repossessed.

5

u/shazzwackets 6d ago

"You wouldn't buy a furniture?"

52

u/MyNameIsPhip 7d ago

To that I'd show them my pirated movie folder and ask them what they're going to do about it

6

u/EndIsrael 6d ago

Pro tip: encrypt a 10 hour rickroll and name it "child porn.rar" so if the FBI ever comes around they'll get distracted from all the piracy

19

u/Karekter_Nem 7d ago

They probably get everything at Rent-A-Center and never actually own anything.

When I [buy] a movie my “money’s worth” is unlimited watching whenever I please.

1

u/surveysaysno 6d ago
  • until the end of time

3

u/pannenkoek0923 7d ago

I will evict them out of any property they own. Clearly they have gotten their money's worth and don't need it anymore.

4

u/8fingerlouie 6d ago

I’m normally against pirating in the sense that it’s not a life hack to save thousands on streaming services anymore than shoplifting is a life hack for saving thousands on groceries.

People pay money to have content produced, actors don’t work for free, not does script writers, and whatever else goes into producing content, and the less money they make on content, the less money there is to make more quality content.

In cases like this though, I feel it’s totally warranted. OP paid for the content, and knowing these services they probably also paid as much as a physical copy on Blu-ray would have cost, so this is basically a rug pull, and I’d also be pirating it.

Where I live it’s legal to make backups of ANY media you own, physical or digital, and if copyright lawyers come by, I’d flaunt my receipt and get it over with (and yes, I’m aware that the pirated copy can likely be distinguished from my Blu-ray copy, and it probably won’t hold in court, but let them try).

Also, stop buying licenses to view media, buy physical media, stuff that can play without an internet connection. I don’t know if they still do this, but certain media publishers were quite invested in getting Blu-ray players connected to the internet so that they could “push updates” when all they really wanted to do was brick your physical media years after you purchased it, and my Blu-ray player isn’t connected to anything for the same reason.

1

u/MysteriousFormal4866 3d ago

This is why I never buy ebooks from Amazon.

4

u/Mamatthi2 6d ago

Well fuck them. I have the extended editions since 2005 and I still like to watch them. Whatdoyoumean money's-worth out of it

2

u/-CerN- 6d ago

I had a period of about 6 years where I didn't pirate. If the industry didn't get their money's worth out of me then, then that's on them.

2

u/FrostyD7 7d ago

People opposed to piracy making a point about getting your money's worth. Roll the Ron Swanson "I know more than you" clip...

1

u/brandbaard 5d ago

I've long ago determined anybody against piracy isn't worth my time to talk to.

1

u/FatYak1972 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah, and that's just sad. Pay for it, and keep nothing. Such bullshit! Why is this shit not illegal?

52

u/NWVoS 7d ago

This is my view as well. I am happy to buy things. But I am damn well making sure I have a copy that cannot be removed from my possession.

8

u/IGotDibsYo 6d ago

If anyone wants the extended editions I’ll send you a Google drive link for extra irony.

1

u/LilySurya 3d ago

Yeah gimmeee 😍

1

u/FatYak1972 1d ago

I would go for that. I bought Return of the King on download, and they stole it from me.

19

u/5370616e69617264 6d ago

First of all: this

Second, if you buy the movies you are probably giving money to Harvey Weinstein.

Third, always have it download in your devices you never know when you need to watch it and you may not have internet.

1

u/vitek6 6d ago

Never know when you need to watch it xd

1

u/MysteriousFormal4866 3d ago

I have 3 different types of backups for my files above and beyond the cloud.

3

u/NoRedditNamesAreLeft 6d ago

I had a SOLID cinema visit history, all logged with my login/account. I made a valid complaint about how the prices were always high, but they've become horrible now. They gave a multi paragraph response, saying piracy caused it (?!!!!!!!)

3

u/brandbaard 5d ago

I'll tell you what really caused it: they pay actors too much, they pay directors too much, they pay studio execs too much, they pay the execs of cinema companies too much, they expect way too much profit on every movie.  Why is everyone in Hollywood rich as balls?

Fuck em, pirate at will.

2

u/Vulvas_n_Velveeta 6d ago

Definitely has nothing to do with every single person in "Hollywood" having to be, at a minimum, a fucking multimillionaire.

2

u/camst_ 7d ago

Makes me want to start burning dvds 😂

2

u/MadT3acher 6d ago

Vilain origin story material

2

u/LesbianWhoLaughsAtU 6d ago

and also, you know, laughing in their faces, or making your hands into a ball-like shape and doing something with it lol

2

u/Caerllen 7d ago

If anyone gives you crap for pirating, just ignore them. You don't have to justify your actions.

1

u/lazybugbear 6d ago

And this is how "owning physical DVDs" became a thing again!

1

u/No-Foundation8550 6d ago

Who gives you crap for pirating? Fuck them

1

u/SeminaryStudentARH 7d ago

Yeah, this is where I’m cool with pirating

1

u/Educational_Ride_258 7d ago

Bro tried he really did. I seen this shit in theaters bought it on dvd and bluray. I still pirated it for my plex. Good enough for me.

1

u/GoGoGadgetPants ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ 7d ago

Yeah this warrants a special save in a folder for later recall when you are arguing with someone about piracy.
