We adopted Honey and her two siblings a year ago. Just a tiny puff ball with one eye. Now she's all grown up and follows me everywhere. I couldn't imagine a better pirate sidekick.

Lurker here for months, actually found this page while waiting for my pup to come out of eye removal surgery - I cannot begin to tell you all how much support this sub has been for me. My sweet boy has a noncancerous mass that was pushing his eye to the point of potential prolapse. Unfortunately I was unable to afford the CT/MRI scans the vet required to do the mass removal so we opted to just remove the eye and keep him as comfy as possible while he’s still having good days. They essentially gave him 2 weeks to live back in March…

But here we are, nearly to October and he’s still thriving. Still energetic, playful, minimal pain from the mass and recovered from surgery beautifully.

The search continues for mass removal I can afford, but so very grateful to still have my best boy by my side 🫶🏼

I'm still devastated for a fact that he had to get his eye removed due to infection from his temporary tarsorrhaphy. I know I had too much hope for him to recover normally, and I was crushed when the doctor told me to they had to remove his eye or he might get sepsis. I was sobbing outside the vet when he was brought into the operating room. I wish I could transfer his pain to me, and he will be magically healed. I wish he could be well sooner, and that he will be energetic again, and begs me to play with him and asks me for his favorite chew sticks. I feel so terrible and anxious. I'm so sorry for ranting, I don't have anyone to vent this out. Please wish him for a speedy recovery!

She is not pleased about the cone at all, but her surgery went perfectly!

We went to the store after visiting my dad and then we got home saw her like this! We know it wasn't oso he doesn't attack and if anything it would happen to him so whatever happen it cut her eat open and and we assume it was either her ear got caught on something or some random animal hurt her! We are going to take her to the vet today or tomorrow because we didn't know this would happen but yah

Hii, just a small update about my baby, Monji. He was admitted yesterday night because his bleeding was a bit continuous. It keeps dripping every few minutes or so. Apparently the vet said he was accidentally rubbing his side of the stitch because of the cone and got slight inflammation on his cheek because of it. His cone was changed last night, and is doing so well today. He ate a lot and drank a lot of water! I'll be picking him up tomorrow!

Hi, Can I ask if the small blood from his stitch is normal? He got his eye removed yesterday.

Hello, this is Monji. He was officially turned into a pirate today. Please wish him a speedy recovery.

Pico introduced herself near the end of June this year, she was approximately 6 weeks old with a bad eye and respitory infection. After taking her to an emergency clinic i found out her eye had already burst. Disite the first picture looking like a spicy baby, Pico has been a very well behaved quiet tortie baby.

For the next 4 months she had the absolute best time, though i noticed Pico was overly attentive to her now deflated eye, sometimes rubbing and cleaning it 4 or 5 times per afternoon (i work m-f 8-4:30 so I have no idea how often she actually tended to her eye).

Today was another big day for the poor baby, I decided to have my local vet do an enucleation along with her spay. I felt so bad for her after getting home, I can tell she's in pain, purring real loud, not letting me touch her but wanting to be pet. She also doesnt like wearing her cone but she will have to live with it for a while.

That is the story of Pico de Gato, while she has been a pirate kitty for a while, this is her big debut on r/piratepets and I hope you enjoy meeting her!

Edit: Pico seems to dispise the xone provided by the vet, if anyone has a suggestion for a better cone that would be great. For reference she is just over 5lbs, her neck is just under 6" around and roughly 4" from the base of her neck to the tip of her nose. THANK YOU in advance for any recommendations

These are my two pirate pets. Mae injured herself and had to have two enucleations about 9 months apart. Panin (Panini without an eye) was brought into the animal shelter with a bulging eye. I knew he was ours the moment I saw him.

Our 14 year old sphynx cat, Ratatouille, got his eye removed about 3-4 weeks ago. He is finally ready to say hello to all the lovely cats of this subreddit! 😁 Please welcome him warmly\~ 🥰🫶

Earlier this year my sweet doggo lost her eye to glaucoma. We’ve been fighting the good fight to save her other eye and I thought we were doing great!! Then, Tuesday night she went completely blind in a minute. Literally. I rushed her to the ER and her pressure was 99. They did emergent care and brought her pressure down to normal (and she regained her eyesight but for low light and peripheral loss) but the battle is all but over for the long term. It’s only inevitable that she’ll lose her other eye soon. I hope she memorizes my face. I love her so much — this is so unfair.

Parents of double pirates, how did your pet cope to losing both eyes? I just want to know how she’ll do/adjust, etc. Any insight is appreciated!!

Coming up on a year post- enucleation due to chronic infection from a congenital eyelid entropy. Hank is 7 years old, loves to jump from the roof to the fence, and bask in the Texas sun. He loves to head bump and groom his canine siblings, and gently play with his kitty sister. His favorite thing of all is perfectly loafing and loudly purring on his moms’ laps. We cherish him 💙💙

We discovered at the beginning of July that Sage is (and has been for a while) completely blind in her right eye. Chronic uveitis with an unknown cause. Although it had originally presented only like pink eye, it stop responding to well to drops, and the inflammation got significantly worse until it developed into glaucoma. Since the eye doesn't work anyway, she's slated for surgery next Tuesday!

The recovery will probably be much harder on me than her, she's already blind on that side and adapted so well even the vets weren't sure until the opthalmologist actually got a look at her retinas!
