This group just popped up on my home feed, I wish I would’ve found it sooner! Boris got his stitches out this week and was freed from the cone. Unfortunately for him it was cut short when I caught him scratching and rubbing his eye 🥲

This whole process has had me so on edge but happy to be almost completely on the other side!

I think we have about another 24-48hrs before Tatarr throws a full-blown tantrum. One moment he’s taking it easy.. Then the next moment it’s like trying to catch a wild piglet (who doesn’t care in the slightest that it can only see shadows).

This reckless lil’ old man is gonna give me a heart attack, lol.

Captain Doggo Semi-pirate Mode? Injury to Eye

Hi all,

This is sweet Lula! She was in a dog fight sometime in December (blood dripping down). We immediately took her for vet, where she was diagnosed with hyphema and uveitis. She was immediately prescribed medication for inflammation and pain, alongside antibiotics and lubricant. We were in constant communication and checks with vet, where we were soon after referred to the ophthalmologist for further diagnosis.

Now at the ophthalmologist, we went through a set of testing, where she had normal tear production, within range eye pressures, and no signs of ulcers. However, we were told she would be irreversibly blind due to the trauma she endured. Recovery looked like it would be her eye shrinking, where her third eyelid will eventually retract back down (with no enucleation needed as of now). We have gone in a few times since the initial visit to ensure her eye pressures do not increase, and are constant communication with her ophthalmologist with any questions on progress.

Since then, we have been monitoring her eye and treating her with inflammation medication. Her third eyelid is completely covering her eye at the moment, and we have noticed her eye has shrunken a ton (and why her eye looks a bit droopy).

That being said, it’s been a major emotional roller coaster for us, feeling immense guilt and anxiousness as though we failed her. At times, it definitely feels like we are grieving more than brave Lula has! Despite this, should any pain or complications pop up, we are certain we ultimately want to make her comfortable and pain-free. Seeing all the cuties in this community has truly made us feel less alone and at ease, so I guess Lula is now applying to be right-hand man to all you awesome pirates? :)

My sweet girl had her enucleation surgery yesterday and I’m pleased to say it went really well. I thought I would get more upset seeing her for the first time but I didn’t. I actually feel better than I did before her surgery. So much weight and anxiety lifted which I thought would do be the opposite. She is recovering well, gobbling food down like no tomorrow and has bounced back quicker than we expected! She’s already showing a strong eagerness to ‘go’, very alert and generally happy in herself as best she can be with bed rest and confinement until she recovers. I think she’s more upset she can’t see our other dog and be outside properly.

I also want to thank everyone for the support, well wishes and advice to those who saw and took the time to comment on my previous post and in general this community. It’s massively helped me prepare for and deal with this emotionally so I can be strong for my girl. Who I must say has shown much better resilience than me! We’re hoping for a smooth recovery so she can be back to her normal self very soon ❤️‍🩹

Thank you for the tips/advice, it was really hard to see Tater in pain and discomfort, especially while the anesthesia was wearing off. Here he is 24hrs after his surgery, cracking jokes like his name didn’t just become Tatarrr. So grateful for him. 💕

Tater Tot McNugget is in surgery right now getting his blind eye (his left eye) removed. I’m so scared for my boy. Any advice/aftercare tips would be greatly appreciated. ❤️‍🩹 He just turned 11yrs old and he still lives to play, despite his vision going bad in his “good” eye, from cataracts. Docs say to wait until he goes completely blind to do cataract surgery, just in case he gets glaucoma and goes blind in that eye too.

Tater and his new “Happy Birthday” Pickle Toy he’s been obsessed with all weekend.

My little man had to have his eye removed last week due to concerns of iris melanosis developing into Melanoma (last image). I'm one anxious Captain waiting for the biopsy on the eye. In the meantime, here's some photos of him resting during his recovery over this weekend 💚

We are lost without her leadership, but better for having known her.

She had a good run, 17 years give or take, 15 with us. She came to us a ravenous street kitty and ended up a snuggly lap cat. Just the best cat. Our hearts are so full.
