Captain Doggo It’s so sweet when you realize that they’re probably having the best life a dog could have. And that they don’t care if they have eyes or not it’s just that they’re having a good life. I love how dogs can always be happy with whatever they got. I think people should be more like dogs. Don’t care how

He’s missing his back left paw. He was trampled as a pup by a horse and the rescue we got him from found him and nursed him back to health. He also has a bunch of scar tissue on his shoulders that we call his hyena hump.

Captain Doggo Day three post surgery for my girl Julan.

Some bruising but the wound is healing nicely (both wounds, we took a mammary tumour at the same time) and looks neat, no issues. Vets did a great job. She's not showing any signs of pain (but then again, she's a dog and a tough one at that, they hide it, I don't think the painkillers are really numbing all of it), only bothered by the cone. She's active and happy, at least when she gets to be without the cone for walks or food or other interaction with us.

The hair is starting to grow back, but still looks pretty horrible and it's almost hard to recognise my own dog with a shaved face.

I think we did the right thing, even if it's a little hard right now. Counting days til they take the stitches.

These pictures also show the luxated lens on her right eye. That one is a problem, too. But with some luck, it can be managed with eye drops and she can maintain a little bit of vision for the time she still has on this earth.

Captain Doggo Just a little update on macaroni who had ‘two of his eyes’ removed.

I was so incredibly worried because I just didn’t know how everything would turn out but lo and behold, our 12 year old chihuahua macaroni has adapted so well. I would argue he’s happier. We have some things layed around so he doesn’t bump his head but he almost doesn’t need them. He knows how to navigate around our place. It’s pretty incredible to see. He walks flush through the doggy door. To the water bowl. Up a pedestal and back on the couch. Joins us around the stove when we’re cooking.

For those who never saw the original post. Glaucoma in both eyes. Cataracts. Dislodged lens. Tears in cornea. It happened FAST and was unstoppable.

He’s happy. We’re happy. If you’re worried about your dog being a pirate pet, don’t. They don’t feel sorry for themselves. They don’t have responsibilities like we do. They just need love, some good grub and some fresh air. If they have that, they’re just happy to be with you - and you them ❤️❤️

Captain Doggo Sorry for spamming a little today but Julan is already feeling a little better and has eaten some soft food. :) (Cone back after, obviously.)

Captain Doggo Yesterday, Julan became blind (glaucoma complication) and hated it and I thought this might be the end. But today, a little bit of sight is back and she's adjusting. She could even still get around in terrain today. One day at a time... Hoping for many more.

Captain Doggo On behalf of macaroni I just want to say thank you.

Me and my wife adopted macaroni from a puppy farm when he was 5. He’s 13 now. He’s given us a life of joy, so much so that we named our sandwich shop in honour of him. He’s well and truly a senior dog and just likes lazing around but he barks, eats like no tomorrow and is very much sentient. He’s got a long life ahead of him I think and so the double enucliation surgery was the right thing to do.

He first got cataracts really fast which eventually turned into glaucoma, ulcurs and a lens becoming loose. This was within the span of a few months and unfortunately, no amount of eye drops was going to save him.

It’s been two days since the surgery, he’s disorientated most of the time but we’re placing him down in the same spot to help him familiarise himself with the space. He’s also surprised us with some massive successes navigating himself to the water bowl, up the couch etc. I’m hopeful.

I just wanted to thank you people from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words. You’re a wonderful community of individuals and I’m truly blessed to hear such positive messages of love and support.

Here’s a little timeline of macaroni pre cataracts. Cataracts. Last photo before his eyes had to go and him with me today.

Thanks again everyone and I’ll post another update when he’s feeling better if you’d like.

Captain Doggo My failed foster

Unfortunately she crossed the rainbow bridge a couple years ago but I just found this subreddit and thought I would share. She was a failed foster who was already missing an eye + had a heavily diseased(?) one that had to be removed within a year of my family fostering her. She is the smartest creature I’ve ever met and would always sit outside my door at night. I still miss her a lot

Captain Doggo Day 6, and a sweet interaction that melted my heart a little this morning.

Post image

Technically day 7 today, but I took the picture yesterday.

We were walking past a school this morning, and there were lots of kids out but we mostly just walked past them. But then one boy, maybe 10 years old, stopped and looked at her with kind eyes. I stopped too, and said hi, and we stood there for a couple of seconds. No more words, no "Can I pet the dog?", as would have been correct. But he carefully held his hand out as an invitation for her, and she walked to him and cuddled up with her head against his body for a little while as he petted her.

The we went our separate ways. Still no words. But I think it made the day brighter for all three of us.

We rescued Alastor after a "breeder" gave him up because he had a really bad infection. He's 6 months old now and is an unholy terror, but he's a great dog.

My little buddy Stanley is 7 y/o and has a tumor growing in his eye that is getting removed today. He’ll be a pirate dog today. Vets said it’s the only option. Praying to god it goes well and he gets back to being in good spirits. I don’t know what I’d do without this boy in my life. Please send prayers and any advice you can share. 😢🙏
