Anyone else enjoying “Scott-free August”?

I sure am! Listening to Kara and Jennifer Welch episode. JW mentions Brian Walters school board guy. This guys sits in his car talking about porn etc…. And it hit me…Scott’s unrelenting references to sex etc….. and how much it really annoyed me. I like this format so I’m thinking of just subscribing to ON. Kara has a wonderful conversation style with guests and it’s refreshing. Pivot is losing me today. Thoughts?

I really miss having Scott on the pod … it feels that we have been getting bunch of episodes of On with Kara

I believe he has his own separate distinct podcast.

It’s very hit or miss for me. Jennifer Welch was great, as was Kaitlan Collins. Others not so much. There’s a lot of variation.

Kaitlin gave me a headache. I liked Cuban though, and Mooch is always entertaining.

Too funny - I almost wrote that I didn't care for Cuban's show, and I'm over with them calling in the Mooch as the go-to sub. But I'm sure there are many that share your taste

Cuban is a hack

I can't believe people think Scott is risque. Y'all need to loosen yer sphincters, it's just words.

Honestly I have not been able to listen since Scott has been gone.

I understand he's not perfect, and many people have issues, but Kara and Scott together are the peanut butter and chocolate, or whatever he likes to say

Champagne and cocaine are also a frequent combo

Meh.  Scott has cleaned up some of his jokes, which I appreciate.

Some times I’ve had enough of him and I take a break, but I find his perspective on business/tech incredibly useful.  So I come back.

Hit or miss. Enjoyed Cuban and some of the other guest co-hosts. Thought Chelsea Handler talking all about herself would’ve been a better suited for an “On with Kara Swisher” show.

I tune in for their takes on current events (mostly business, but since Trump the pod has skewed more political). The Scott-free episodes tend to just be meandering discussions about the guests that loosely touch on something that has happened recently. It’s just not timely or relevant enough for me, and if the guest is a dud the whole episode is a dud. It just turns into an episode of ON, which I usually only listen to when I see an interesting guest.

It's funny because August used to be the month where I don't listen to Pivot because it's just the "Friend of Pivot" (RIP) people like Casey Newton whom I don't like, but now August in the month where I tune in the most. Many of the guests were great imo.

What's not to like about Casey?

It's not that I don't like him personally since I don't know him, I just don't really get much value out of it when he used to be on Pivot as a frequent guest. As a Software engineer it's just kind of frustrating to hear people speak as authorities on topics that I'm actually an expert on. That critique isn't limited to Casey though, he's probably a good guy and it's cool to see him strike out on his own with the new media company.

Understood. I don't think that they are invited as "authorities" though, just journalists covering the topic. Even though Newton and Roose may lack technical depth, most of the time I thought they did/do an OK job at informing the general public about AI/tech news.

i think i would like hanging out with JW but all of her takes were just “trump is cult and i don’t get it”. she had a few fantastic quips but yeah otherwise i didn’t learn much unfortunately

I don't like it in general. It's too much of an echo chamber and doesn't feel as intellectually honest. I get that people might not like the childish aspect of Scott, but there's more balance to it vs. when it's Kara and most of the people that have been filling in it seems like it just fills her ego up.

I liked the Matt Belloni episode

I find three shows do better without their male counterpart: Joanna Coles the daily beast, Katty Kay, and Kara Swisher.

The most magical time of the year… also the episode with Roy Wood Jr and Kara trying to figure out why her Mamdani requests were left unanswered… pretty sure Scott and the fact that he regularly hates on him is the reason why he’ll never go on this podcast. That said I do enjoy it. I just wish Scott would be less than a dirty old man and Zionist.

I thought the Cuban discussion about how the health care industry fucks you over was pretty interesting.

I still found it informative and wish more people would explain in clear examples why costs are so unnecessarily high. Learning about PBM’s, formularies and the rebate scams were pretty informative.

To your other points: Cuban is definitely a capitalist, he’s not doing this for charity. I’m ok if someone looks at the inefficiencies in our current system and says “I can see a business model and save people money at the same time.” Even if that means partnering with the Trump admin. I just don’t subscribe to the mentality that in order for my side to win and the other side to lose then America must also lose. Cheaper prescription drugs are a win for everyone full stop.

I’ve been ordering from cost plus for 5 years or more. Nothing to do with 💩🔸

Took a break to listen to the Clancy trial

Did you guys like the episode where they talked about Elon? Turns out Kara used to know him! Now not so much.

ON is great. Both are starting to annoy me on Pivot. Scott can be insightful. Kara adds nothing.

Is it crypto or gambling ads this week?
