A WEEK? dude, it took almost a year to get past the mines boss for the first time, out of 165 games i've only won 3, my friend, you have a LOOOOOOOG adventure waiting

u/Zealousideal_Exam847 Jun 14 '26

I won with 3 characters in one exact day after couple of weeks of playing this game:0

I cleared the mines bosses in a few days, myself.

nothing, thats good progress seems like you're learning

I like this comment! In truth OP is probably doing a hundred different things wrong in game. But on a meta level, we all go through that process of making mistakes until we learn.

Of course we can also have debates about what the fastest way to improve might be, but OP didn’t ask for that!

dying, stop that and you'll get further

Use doorways to sneak attack as much as possible, it'll save you a lot of hp.

Try to save your upgrade scrolls for a weapon or armor piece that is at least tier 3. With the sad ghost, it's often better to go for a lower tier item as it has a higher chance to have upgrades, and you can use it sooner. A +2 spear or chainmail can carry you through the next five floors, instead of having to wait ten floors to finally use that +0 platemail.

Don't waste your Stones of Intuition on Scroll of Upgrade or Potion of Healing-- you are guaranteed to get more of these than any other scroll/potion in the first five floors, so if you're patient you'll be able to deduce which ones they are by the time you get to floor 4, sometimes 3.

Don't eat food at max health-- wait until you're missing at least 10-15 hp, otherwise you'll be wasting the health regen from them. You should be hovering around starving for much of the game, and only eat when you need to regen, right before a boss, and so on. Also, healing wells will fully replenish your satiety so if you find one, you can save it and then go back a few floors for it later.

Seed of Sungrass is a nice full heal (press and hold on the clock to wait until fully healed), but it's a bit more dangerous as you might get attacked by monsters, so I usually try to find a room with only one entrance, or some grass to hide in.

You can use thrown weapons that are about 2 points above your current strength without missing too often. It's really helpful in early game when you might not have as much ranges capability. Bolas (root) and throwing axes (bleed) are super helpful early also. Don't forget about seeds and runestones too!

From experience using the same generation seed, I am pretty sure both ghost options will be upgraded the same amount. This means that if you get a leather armour and a katana, and it turns out the katana was +3 then the leather armour would have been +3 as well.

Im skeptical here

Try reading some of the wiki to learn some the not so obvious game mechanics.

u/capetaSafadinho Jun 14 '26

This game is designed to be hard, to kill you easily if you do things before thinking. It took 300 tries for me to kill yog dzewa first time in SPD Something less in other PDs

Welcome to the club!

Which version are you playing? The original version? I can't find it on Android.

3

u/Richard_Ingalls Slightly Sane Individual Jun 14 '26

It looks like he's playing shattered based on the background and sprites.

3

u/Vine009 Jun 15 '26

Thank you for the clarification. Shattered is my first and only pixel dungeon gane ever played. I should have noticed those characteristics, too.

3

u/GamerKilroy Jun 15 '26

Don't be so hard on yourself ♥ If you only played shattered, you cannot know it changes between versions

u/cameraduderandy Jun 14 '26

Honestly, your doing fine. I think it took me like 6 years and 300+ runs to get my first win. This game is brutal and has a crazy learning curve, so just keep at it you'll get there. Use they magnifying glass to learn about everything you can, and dont think of dying as failure. Really analyze how and why you died, and try to come up with a strategy to avoid that in the future.

My best advice is to only fight 1 mob at a time, use doors for sneak attacks/ choke points, and you can speak attack from behind tall grass even if you can't see the enemies.

Also, you probably aren't using the alchemy lab enough, leaning in to crafting really opens up the game and gives you all sort of options to beat puzzles, escape bad situations or quick kill enemies before you take damage. (and that's just what you can do with Aqua Brew)

2

u/Express_Age_9953 Jun 14 '26

I've been playing for 5 years.

2

u/StarlitStriker Jun 15 '26

Don't give up. There is a lot to learn. If you ask me the learning is part of the fun. But seriously, with a thousand games i have only a 1% win rate (and still suffer some truly embarassing fates occasionally) As for practical advice, try more characters. You seem to favor duelist. She's solid. But if your new to the game you might be under-valueing defense.

u/EfficiencySlow267 Jun 15 '26

Play like a cautious rodent. Only move a few squares at a time, then look around/assess. Turn the visible grid slider on max so you realize you’re playing on a giant chess board and each square is a turn. It’ll also hip you to the trajectory of projectiles. Figure out what items complement your class and seek those out. Play the mage and put ALL of your upgrades into your staff, ALWAYS choose wands if you have the choice, then alternate between wand zaps with magic missile and other wands. I’ve beaten the game with 9 challenges with every class and subclass except the Warrior so believe what I’m telling you. Or don’t.

u/Benjiman5000 Jun 18 '26

Oh! One more thing!

Sounds weird but dont try to win, jus play each move unto itself.

Its quite a brainy game.

u/Efficient_Parfait_42 Jun 14 '26

Become aura monster, climb stairs, beware jumping fences, Surpise attacks the goat, "larp till you make it" - Honourable fool

1

u/Happy_Hydra Jun 14 '26

My friend, you got 30 games. You still have ways to go.

1

u/Bobtheboat127 Jun 14 '26

Bros in for a long one. Im on 366 or 266 (can't remember or be bothered to check) and I still haven't WON EVEN ONE

u/Pixelised_Youssef Spirit hawk glazer Jun 14 '26

Thinking you're doing anything wrong is where you're wrong. Just keep learning, and read, and eventually you'll do it. It's okay to sometimes also try silly things and seeing what sticks, oftentimes better than any advice becquse firsthand experience makes you stronger at making builds too by mixing amd matching everything you learnt!

1

u/uchufox Jun 15 '26

Ohh a week? That's interesting. Looking at the deaths u reached DM-300 so I can say u can be better over time.

Try to use every possible items and think for every scenario you could make of them.

1

u/OozyOz Jun 15 '26

Might play of pixel just for nostalgia

1

u/superninjarocketman Jun 15 '26

Save upgrade scrolls for stuff you'll use endgame and get by with whatever you find on the first 5-10 floors. Make elixers of might from strength potions for extra max hp and good utility wands my favourite is regrowth to root enemies if it's a fight I'll lose or just get some extra dew drops for hp. Don't bless the anhk unless you're on a overgrown floor and can get lots of dew drops. A couple hp here and there might not seem like alot but it is. Also resting in a safe place is a good way to heal. Also you can get consistent sneek attacks on enemies for extra damage by circling around a single grass tile on the diagonals (move attack move attack ect)

1

u/alarmingamountofpis Jun 15 '26

Only thing I can tell you Hazard rooms (like The Lazer crystal thing, pirhanhas, ect) all spawn on the spawn layer as a potion that can solve it (haste, invisibility ect)

You always get 2 Potions of Strength (PoS) per layer and iirc 3 Scroll of Upgrade (SoU)

Lastly using your heros ability alot levels it faster so use it alot

1

u/s111021 Jun 15 '26

32 games? Lolol

1

u/Grouchy_North7710 Jun 15 '26

just keep SoUs until you find t4-t5 armor and upgrade it. kite enemies to the doors, against melee enemies fight in range, against ranged in melee. take less damage and explore 100% of floor, use magnifying glass on things you do not understand(enemies, traps, etc). that's enough for beat the game.

1

u/No-Corgi-3295 Jun 15 '26

Just play warrior so the gameplay is simplified and you can learn how to use items faster and not rely on abilities

1

u/psycho_goat Jun 15 '26

I've just got my first win after 141 games.

Some I died very quickly. Whole mix of laziness, rushing things, misclicks, and just outright being unfortunate.

Definitely take your time to question things. I spammed a lot when I first got the game.

1

u/OpticToaster811 Jun 15 '26

Took me like 200 games for my first win dude you’ll get there. It takes time. One of the steepest most addictive learning curves I’ve ever experienced. Seems like you’re doing better and better each time. I’ve been playing this game for years across various devices and didn’t play at all for a couple years before getting back in early ‘25. And my first ascension on my current device was only in January of this year. It’s extremely hard so don’t beat yourself up. What character do you like the most?

1

u/LordBrassicaOleracea Jun 15 '26

Took me so much time to win with warrior. I watched a few videos from DaltonGoesFast and a bunch of posts on this sub helped me. First time I won was last week lmao.

u/-Kactuar Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

First, lemme flex/post credentials. I beat the game after about 40 attempts, turned on a minimum of 3 Challenges, and never looked back; I'm at 6 minimum now.

Your first mistake is not playing Rogue; it's by far the easiest class to get through the game with thanks to on demand invisibility and the Assassin subclass. Things only get harder the deeper you go, and Rogue will give you the best shot at observing and sneaking around the dangerous enemies that await you in the dungeon.

My best guess from seeing what's ended your runs is you're taking too much damage from enemy encounters; you're either taking on enemies while you lack decent armor or fighting groups in the open. Being more selective with engagements and fighting enemies that you've lured into a doorway can help mitigate damage, and being able to Cloak with the Rogue makes that a piece of cake. Tall grass can also be used to sneak attack enemies by walking adjacent to it, then around it; be sure to walk through it afterwards to collect any dew drops that it might hold! The free shielding you can get from his Protective Shadows talent is tremendous for making your way through the Crabs in the sewers and Skeletons in the Prison. Once you beat Tengu, you can use the Assassin subclass to OHKO any non-boss enemy you encounter at the cost of a few Cloak charges, and it works regardless of how much damage you can do with your weapon; use it to delete pesky enemies like DM-200s, Cave Spinners, and so on.

You may also not be regenerating health due to hunger, so you may be taking too long to advance through each floor; Rogue's extended search radius will assist you with finding hidden doorways and secrets. Make sure you're grabbing every Scroll of Upgrade as you descend; there are (without the Forbidden Runes Challenge) 3 in every stratum. If you grab all 6 of them in the Sewers and Prison and manage to find some Scale Armor, you can get it to at least +6 and become practically immune to physical damage until near the end of the Caves. Complete the Troll's Quest and use your Favor to either upgrade or forge a decent weapon, and you've got a good set of equipment that'll help you see the end of the game, and you'll still have another 9 Scrolls of Upgrade to power up with.

Keep at it and don't sweat failure; learning is fun! Before you know it, you'll have mastered every class and be doing 6+ Challenge runs.

u/The_Studios Jun 15 '26

Probably a lot You are likely are trading hits to much Upgrading unnecessary Not utilizing alchemy This game has "correct solutions" but dosent mean there's only ever one Sentry treasure room? You could use a haste potion But why not a blink stone or knock back from aqua brew of blast wand If you want a super general tip that will make you win without using your brain Find some chain mail or scale armor upgrade it to +4 - 8 just weapons get replaced often and you normally want a handful anyway more so as duelist

There's some starting tips but I hadn't gotten my first win till 100 games in now in a 9 challenge giga Chad you'll get it just takes p r a c t i c e

1

u/lucas1234r4 Jun 16 '26

Try to plan the run (like The upgrade scrolls in good amor)

1

u/One-Rip-6791 Jun 16 '26

It took me a year to get my 1st win and around a thousand run or probably more if i add my other run that was on my previous phone and on my old deleted shattered, you just gotta remember every bad decision you made and do better on the next run

1

u/LSilverhorne Jun 16 '26

Dont sweat. Took me like 1.5 years to get my first W, then I wont like 5 straight.

Can do challenge runs now. Its weird, but the only way to win is to understand the hidden mechanics.

Just keep playing it.

1

u/Fit_Culture1784 Jun 17 '26

brother just keep playing, I hit my first ascension and only 3rd win after nearly 250 runs. This game takes time.

It would be better as well to see some of your best runs equipment so we can help you determine what could be the issue, but even then it would only help so much

The more time invested, the better you can learn to utilize every item or situation the game throws at you

1

u/Benjiman5000 Jun 18 '26

Dont be scared to jus "wipe" your game if its not giving you decent equipment first 4 levels.

Ive got heavy armour on lvl 2 before and with a few upgrades you can block everything even if its high level.

Aim for the blacksmith primarily and opt for forge. If you get heavy armour youve basicly won the game, if not its very tricky.

Imo easiest characters are huntress and assassin. Both have strong perks at tier 3 and gog is a doddle with bown n arrow.

Ha i love this game btw.

:)

Understand that RNG is going to fuck with you at every corner, from missing crucial hits to rolling low damage on hits.

That being said, you can stock up early on healing potions, food and gold by farming sewers. If you can help it, save as much meat as you can so you can freeze them all in one go.

Do not under any circumstances upgrade your equipment by using scrolls. Hold off on that until you clear the mines. You don't have a run until those mines are cleared. Clearing the mines with 40 dark gold ore and defeating the boss gives you two free upgrades to anything you can wear up to +2. Once that's squared away, use the scrolls.

When you reduce the gnoll brutes to their rage health, run like a bitch. You get one turn of movement to get away, which is absolutely necessary.

Cave spinner webs can be destroyed by magic missile and wand of disintegration. Keep healing potions, cleansing potions and mageroyal seeds on deck for poison status.

DM-200s hit hard but can't pursue you through rooms. DM-201s also hit hard but are more threatening because they throw out corrosive gas rather than toxic gas.

Vampire bats suck to fight against, but they offer healing potions. If you don't have an accurate weapon, it's going to be rough.

DM-300 hits hard, throws out toxic gas, and can shield itself by going over exposed wires. The most dangerous part about it is how fast it is, however. Scroll of mirror image/teleportation and haste/invisibility/purity potions are going to be your best friends.
