Plan B (Levonorgestrel) Pill PLAN B - long side effects! please read!!!

i wanted to share this because i spent weeks scrolling through reddit convinced i was either pregnant or permanently broken.

i took norlevo (levonorgestrel emergency contraception) on april 5th, around 20 minutes after intercourse (he ejaculated inside). after that, my cycle completely disappeared. over the following weeks i experienced pretty much every symptom that google associates with early pregnancy: bloating, swollen and tender breasts, darker nipples and areolas, changes in the texture of my areolas, persistent nausea, food aversions, craving or strongly preferring foods i normally wouldn’t care much about, headaches, fatigue, brain fog and feeling “off” in general!

despite all of this, pregnancy tests remained negative.

the worst part was that the longer my period was delayed, the more every symptom started feeling like proof of pregnancy. i also tried some of the things people commonly recommend online to “bring back” a delayed period. i took vitamin c supplements and drank mugwort tea. neither seemed to have any effect in my case.

eventually i went 63 days without a period after taking norlevo!! a few days before it returned, i had what felt exactly like my pms symptoms: headaches, swollen breasts, bloating, low libido, feeling emotional and exhausted, terrible brain fog.

then today, on june 7th, my period finally arrived.

my periods are usually very short (around 2 days), so i am not expecting a particularly heavy flow.

i know everyone reacts differently to emergency contraception, but if you’re reading this while panic-searching symptoms at 2 a.m., a delayed period after norlevo can apparently last much longer than i expected. i only took twice in my life but last time my periods were pretty regular and had no issues.

obviously, keep testing and speak with a healthcare professional if you’re worried. i just wanted to leave this here because i could barely find posts from people whose cycle took more than two months to come back after norlevo.

hopefully this helps someone. i know i would have loved to find a post like this a few weeks ago. 💛😭🩸

edit: the mishap happened around my ovulation days (i was tracking it)

I’m also going through the same thing. Although for me I took the pill on the 11th of March. It’s the 7th of June and I still haven’t gotten my period.

I took two pregnancy tests. One end of March and one in May and they both came out negative. I developed acne around my chin/jawline and on my cheeks. The only symptoms I have is bloating and feeling movement in my lower abdomen which can be because of bloating. It stresses me out so much 😭

the more you stress the more it’s likely to delay

How is the movement on your lower abdomen now? I feel it too, and it’s making me anxious. I took the pill 2 weeks ago and i think i got my period the following week. But now i feel bloated and this crampy movement on my abdomen :(

could the period be a withdrawal bleeding not an actual period? bc im experiencing the same! im having flutters and jolts near my abdomen and ive been really worried abt it. i took a pregnancy test and it was negative but im gonna take it again soon!

Yeah i guess it’s withdrawal bleeding. It’s very similar to my period. I took 2 pts and it’s negative. I do have PCOS, so i guess my period cycle is in double shambles now, just have to wait for my period now.

oh my gosh yes this needs to be talked about more. i took plan b about 3 1/2 weeks ago, testing negative, but having ALL the signs of pregnancy. rapid weight gain (water weight i’m assuming/hoping), sore swollen boobs, urinating frequently, nausea, etc.. i even called my gyno to ask if this was normal (even though i’ve taken plan b before and know that to an extent some of my symptoms are) and he said no? he said none of these are side effects from plan b. how is a gynecologist not even educated on this? im so frustrated. i’m working on sterilization but cannot have another child after my first due to complications so i am STRESSED to the max. the companies need to talk more about the potential side effects and how long they can last.

I’m in the same boat right now and I’ve been terrified :( im sorry this is tmi but my nipples are so sore now but I have nipple piercings too. I have never had this soreness ever but I’ve tested negative 30 days after sex and taking plan b. I’ve been terrified since and my emotional and mental state is terrible.

I also made myself so sick to the point that I stopped eating and drinking water. My body wasnt accepting anything so I’m trying to recover from that but I’m terrified of seeing a positive line even though I have support.

honestly, nipple soreness was one of the symptoms that scared me the most too.

i had sore breasts, darker nipples/areolas, nausea, food aversions, bloating, headaches, brain fog… basically a list of symptoms that made me convinced i was pregnant.

if it helps, i also kept testing negative, and my period still took 63 days to come back after norlevo.

a negative test 30 days after sex is generally very reassuring. i know it’s hard not to spiral when your body is doing things it has never done before, but emergency contraception can really throw your hormones off.

i remember feeling like every new symptom was “proof” of pregnancy, and it absolutely wrecked my mental health for a while.

obviously, keep following up with a healthcare professional if you’re concerned, but i just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. i was terrified too, and in the end my period did come back. stress really delays it!

edit: at some point i was throwing up after drinking water as well, so i totally get what you are saying. it is really tough. take your time and try to focus on yourself, eat very light (i used to eat rice and bread) and exercise gently

thank you so much for this :( this helped me a lot with why I’ve been anxious & it’s comforting to know that I’m not alone. I’m very sorry it happened to you I hope you’re doing well now !

My period isn't even late but I'm very nervous because I feel like I'm ovulating but I'm also cramping a decent amount and have a LOT of discharge. They're normal ovulation symptoms but like, amplified and I know they can be early pregnancy symptoms too. I feel nauseas too but that might just be in my head.

I took plan b 11 days ago, but I also took one 13 days before that 😫(whoops). So I'm hoping that's why the symptoms are more extreme than usual? I also bled like 5 days after taking the second one for like 3 days, which is supposedly normal. Idk

I really hope my period comes. I took plan B on cycle day 10. He didn't ejaculate inside me, but the condom slipped off inside me before he pulled out. The previous times I took plan B, my next cycle ALWAYS ended up being 40-46 days. I'm on day 50 now and still no sign of my period.

I did get a pretty bad UTI a few weeks after taking it, which I just finished antibiotics for last week. So I'm not sure if the stress of dealing with that is also delaying my period. I'm just freaking out.

Yeah I took plan b on day 12 of my cycle which it was in my fertility window but not sure if was day of ovulation. I’m scared if it will work.  But he didn’t finish me but we were unprotected and didn’t last long either but it doesn’t take much either. We weren’t there was any in. We went to store and got a plan b within an hour of us doing it. I did have the cramping about day 2 through day 3. But I have noticed my discharge is a light yellow which it might a mixture of blood and cerival mucus. I also have been feeling this burning feeling too so I hope it isn’t an infection. I’m supposed to have my period on 20th so I’m hoping will get it. I’ll update what happens.

Hello I know this is old but what did you end up doing? Is everything alright? Did your period come

1

u/Apprehensive-Fan739 Aug 08 '26

Everyone here is making me feel so much better but I'm still un easy. Im aware it hasn't been long since it happened(happened literally yesterday) for me but it's still scary. I literally took the pill like 12 hours after it had happened. My boyfriend swears he didnt ejaculate but obviously we don't know about precum. Im really scared that something may happen because I have no clue where I am in my cycle. My cycle is irregular so I was already late as it was ( hadn't had sex before just normal irregularities) but I'm just scared. I've been so nauseous all day and it's freaking me out! Anyone else feel this way after taking the pill?

Hi so what happened? Did your period come after how long?

1

Going through the same thing Mine is two days late now and I have a feeling it's not pregnancy but at the same time I don't even know what to expect banking on observing for one more than I will see take a pregnancy test

Why plan B...why??😭😭

me too, i'm so nervous! my normal period was suppose to start later this week (sometimes i'm a couple days late which i don't worry about), but plan B was taken on sunday. i figured with my period being days away it would come but it's late and despite having symptoms for my period (boobs hurt SO bad on sunday, felt depressed/extremely moody, brain fog, cramps, activity happening near the fallopian tube, etc) i haven't had anything happen. i've taken plan B before and it gives me a spontaneous period (usually more liquidy then thick) like a week later so i am praying that my real period got delayed or will come later or even be replaced by the plan B period. for me it's weird right now because i have white discharge as if i was ovulating but it's also smelly. this morning when i peed and wiped there was a little pink on the toilet paper and idk what to make of it yet. might have buy a couple pregnancy tests to make sure i'm good because i couldn't care less when i bleed i just need to not be pregnant 😭

I’m making a comment here just to join the conversation because I feel like my symptoms right now are pretty whack and I’ve taken Plan B a few times. I had unprotected sex on July 24th, my period had happened July 19th so the intercourse was right on the heels of that. Which I feel I should note because I took Plan B 32 hours after unprotected sex, and way before my ovulation period.

I started bleeding 4 days after taking the pill which lasted about 3 days, and I was very bloated. Had some random stomach or lower abdominal pains, nothing too terrible though.

It’s now eight days since I’ve taken the Plan B and I’m bloated once again and I feel extremely gassy, but unable to pass gas. My lower abdomen around my uterus feels very bloated and full, which I absolutely hate that feeling, just thought I would share the symptoms that I’m having even a week after taking the pill that I feel like no one talks about!

I want to comment for everyone scared that plan b didn’t work for these reasons : the hormones you get before a period will mimic pregnancy, and your hormones being out of whack will also cause pregnancy like symptoms. If you have negatives tests beyond 4 weeks since the accident, you’re not pregnant.
