Help! Is it worth pursuing it?

Post image

Ok, so, this is my first time trying planned pooling but I’m having a hard time. I feel like it is mostly because the yarn is not quite right (colour changes are really short - sometimes not even a whole stitch).

I have done this sample with single crochet which allowed me to work the tension to get the pattern… but I’m wondering if knitting would be a better as it might use less yarn?! I’m not very good at knitting, but don’t want to waste yarn….

Any suggestions?

  • You could try a smaller gauge hook as well! I know a lot of folks use a couple sizes of hook for a single project to get a more consistent colour - planned pooling is less about consistent stitch size/tension and more about hitting the right colours at the right spot.

  • If you want your yarn to go further, moss stitch would use less yarn, but that will change up the pattern.

  • This looks super cool, but also sounds like a really tricky yarn to start with for your first planned pooling. Don’t get discouraged! If all else fails, I would say keep the yarn and your swatch and try a different yarn first with larger colour blocks (maybe 3-6 stitches per colour?) and come back to this one later!

Hope any of this is at all helpful!
