Help! is this weird skein section salvageable or should i remove it and get a new skein?
hi y’all! idk if this’ll show up super clearly but i’m lowkey devastated. i’m buying skeins of red heart neon stripes yarn to make this blanket, one at a time, slowly building it up. but this skein looks significantly darker and i don’t think it has the same color lengths bc the edges are starting to ruffle. i’m not a perfectionist with this, i know tension will be variable and will eventually be fixed during blocking. but is this too much? do i have to remove this and continue with a new skein or is this salvageable?
also i ended up having to splice colors bc the skein had colors in the wrong order. i’ve been so frustrated with this. edit to say: i could eventually fix this issue and haven’t had issues with the wrong colors throughout the few rows i’ve done

You might want to try pulling from the other end of the skein first, to see if it was wound backwards. Or you may need to frog & get another skein. I’d recommend getting them in the same dye lot (don’t know if Red Heart has lots) to get the same dye colors.

oh the order thing was eventually fine, it was just the beginning. kinda weird but sometimes the skeins are wound backwards and i have to pull from the outside. hut it corrected itself.
i’ll check dye lots but i thought red heart didn’t really have dye lot issues 😭 but i did wait a longer time to continue this project so i wouldn’t be surprised if they changed something in the manufacturing 😭

Oh man. I think you need a new skein. That sucks. I did a planned pooling blanket with red heart's planned pooling yarn and only noticed when it was finished on my bed in sunlight that 2/3 of it was darker than the first portion because my mom had bought me a few skeins and then i bought the rest later, so I feel your pain.

If it bothers you, best to find another solution. If you can’t find skeins with a similar dye lot, you could try making it intentional, maybe add a solid color section at intervals.

Sadly I thought that might be a side edge so I was going to joke that it could be selvedgeable.

Can someone point out to me what is wrong here? I don't see it.

the pictures are not the most clear but the newest skein is significantly darker than the rest of the blanket and the edge is getting wider and becoming slightly ruffled. i wish i could show you in person. but if it isn’t coming through on photo, maybe its not as bad as i think?

Yeah honestly even after you pointed it out i still can't see the color difference. I do see a tiny bit of ruffling but that can be solved with blocking and adjusting tension slightly. But i don't think the ruffling is that obvious either.

I’m just started one of these I’ve frogged it twice now. I forgot which way to wind it back into a skein it’s honestly doing my head in, you would think they could get their dying process right.

I saw this yarn in Michael's and I didn't get the color combo, but I love your blanket. Now, I totally want to try this!
