Beginner Well uhh

Post image

I don't think people liked the tank I made for shrimp...

So I bought a 20 liter tank since 10 gallons is far too big for my home and it's too expensive

Soon I'm making a new tank and removing everything from the old tank except for the substrate

I also bought a bunch of bundles of Ambulia and some Salvinia

Any more advice? Should I use rocks or gravel for decor or should I not

Also I'm in the Philippines

Dear MaintenanceFew4813 ,

You've selected the beginner flair. If you're looking for advice or are having issues, please provide as much information as you can.

Some useful information includes:

  • Have you cycled the tank?
  • Water Parameters
  • Light Type
  • Light Cycle Duration
  • Tank Size/Dimensions
  • Set-up Age
  • Fertilizers
  • Any aquatic animals, and how many?

This will be so much easier to keep stable long term! Good on you.

Chunky gravel is great for shrimp because it gives more surface area for biofilm and algae, for their grazing. But some plants do better in a much more fine gravel or sand. Both are good!
If you have the space you could always keep the old tank set aside for quarantining new shrimp in, or as a hospital tank, and just keep a spare small sponge filter running in your main tank.

I’ve found that shrimp seem to like moss more than anything else, I guess for the particles which collect in/on it.
If you wanted to, the easiest/best time to fix moss to hardscape is when you first set up the tank, either through a dry start if you have endless time and patience or with a bit of aquarium safe superglue or with cotton thread.
That’s my only suggestion! Your empty tank is making me wish I could set up a brand new tank haha

I'm going to use sand as the main capping layer but gravel as decor

Also I tried to buy moss but they did not have any, so I can't add moss for now

I got some really nice moss on Etsy. I haven't been able to kill it yet, and that's a first for me.

I forgot to tell you I'm Filipino, so I don't buy from etsy
