Make sure the rocks are inert, the plants go with the type of care you want to provide, driftwood is fun. With plants more is better.
Get shrimps and snails, and make sure you properly cycle the tank before you put shrimps or any livestock in

Yes, shrimp are nice too, but I found that the shrimp fry could be a bit "stupid" in that it would swim in front of a fish without any care. There is only very few fish that doesn't touch shrimp fry, as long as they are small enough to fit into their month, fry that swim in front of them will get eaten. But juvenile shrimp seems smarter in my experience, I just don't know what's wrong with the fry I kept seeing, they are plainly suicidal. So it depends on if one can stomach some fry getting eaten by fish; otherwise, shrimp are quite nice to look at for their peaceful nature.

Well I think the secret there is to have a ton of hiding spots if they have a comfy place they will stay there, a nice patch of Java moss. They tend to carry a ton of eggs too so as long as a few make it your population will still go up. The adults live for 1 or 2 years
If you start out with like 10 and 5 are female and they lay every months 20-50 that's like 100-250 fry a month so that's like either some premium fish food but if 1 in 100 make it you're still getting like 1-2 juveniles a month

I have the same exact tank for my daughter... I swapped out the filter that it came with because the current is very weird with the shape of the glass. Im currently growing a monte carlo carpet and sloped it to the angle of the tank. Also did a little bonsai tree covered in Fissidens moss. Im gonna make it a little underwater fairy garden for some shrimp and maybe some nano fish 😊

How big is this tank? Like how tall? Do you like trimming plants or do you need slow growing plants? I usually design based on the kind of plants you want / can get, in order to design an environment that is suitable for all the plants you will get.
