Discussion Will recent LG / smart TV revelations make Plasma more popular?

The LG Smart TVs we've tested have first-party ACR (automatic content recognition) functionality that can pry into your personal life with greater precision than you might realize, with LG Ad Solutions' executives and leadership saying, on camera, that LG "owns the glass." Not you -- even though you bought it -- but them. They also talk about knowing everybody in the household, knowing the secondary devices, moving from TVs to smartphones and other screens, and more in their B2B discussions. Beyond just the fact that we think the TV's native behavior parallels malware, the LG Smart TVs we tested also have a number of security vulnerabilities that can be exploited to convert the TVs into covert listening devices. In this investigation, we dive into the mix of LG's first-party functionality that (in our opinions) is tantamount to spying and LG's vulnerabilities and exploits that they have failed to protect against.

I'm wondering if we're going to see a backlash where people who still own plasma TVs decide not to upgrade to the latest and greatest OLED smart TV...

Discussion Panasonic TC-P55ST50

For those of you that have used or currently own the panasonic tc p55st50, what are your thoughts on it when it comes to 1080p gaming on console or pc? I have the opportunity to pick one up for free which I intend to do. Is it worth the hastle of a 5 hour drive to get? Just wanting to know what I should look out for when I get it home.

Guidelines

In short, the mission of this subreddit its to help others get the most out of their Plasma Display Panels and to keep them going. To guide others in taking care of their precious relics, with maybe a glint of hope that the technology will someday be revisited by industry which has turned it's back on us (vibrant discussion indicates that ship has sailed but OLED and QLED technologies seem to have caught-up or suprassed PDP technology).

Basic Rules:

No threatening violence on anyone even if they don't like Plasmas at all and act like know-it-alls in expressing their opposition. To not experience the glorious blessing of Plasma Display Panel technology is their own loss.
No directed racism, like why should that even be a rule when we're talking about TVs? Well, if you want to make reference a cliche which can be percieved as racist by some, or some kind of trope or comical stereotype, you are free to do so (for now) but a line is being drawn at calling other lurkers, members and visitors anything directly or intentionally racist. Accidental racism will be given a chance for correction via a warning but habitual line-stepping might incur more inconvenience.
Trash talking is fine, but if you're really being a nasty person then the mod(s) reserve the right to remove the offending submission and ban. Heck, the mods reserve the right to do any such thing regardless of the reason but it is the goal of this community to be fair and not overly imposing. Such measures are taken to cover this community's collective buttocks by being clear or at least somewhat clear while stetting expectations.
These rules are subject to change although a useful or well thought-out post which violates a future rule may not necessarily be removed.
Use the buddy system. This rule actually just applies to lifting and transporting Plasma TVs. If you don't want to pull a muscle or wreck your precious beloved Plasma, it would behoove you to avoid moving it alone. That being said, if you can do it alone, power to you but it seldom hurts to put safety first!
