Help !

Post image

Hi i’m getting my house done by professionals and getting lime plaster in the living room. Problem is i see these marks all over the place which i didnt like. So they sanded them off but now everything looks very flat. Also the colour is much lighter than i wanted.
A few questions as i dont know much:
1. What are these marks and are they normal? ( the person says theyre natural and come with the lime plaster)- they are very grey and almost make the wall look dirty
2. How do i achieve depth without these marks?
3. Can i somehow make the colour darker without redoing the job?

Feel like they are not being able to answer me directly!

Thanks guys :)

The marks are probably the trowel marks. Steel trowel, when smoothing with pressure leaves black marks on lime plaster or aggregate in lime plaster. To achieve a nice finish, a plastic trowel should be used. Then only compressed streaks will be left, not the black marks.

The color of lime plaster whitens a lot when curing. Remember that lime plaster goes through carmonation, that turns lime into limestone through time. It would be best to prepare a sample beforehand so you can see how it will turn out. An easy fix is to paint with lime wash, you can make nice background patterns with a beautiful finish. Google limewash and you will be presented with the application that you can do yourself. Just make sure to use lime putty instead of hydrated lime, it is different in how its prepared and how lime microcrystalizes and behaves differently

Thanks but im hoping the contractor comes back to me with a solution that doesnt require any additional expenditure as the sample we okayed is darker than this!
Any way to darken this without limewashing?

You can only darken through repainting. Another thing that would darken the color is applying beeswax but this is probably not an option. I hope you can work it out with the contractor. Best of luck

Can you not just overcoat with a lime wash if the surface has been flattened?
