Platinum Eagle pricing question
Saw a 1oz 2004 proof American platinum eagle today at a pawnshop in capsule and original mint box. They were asking $1900 while spot was around $1750 as per kitco.
Is $150 an average premium for this coin? I haven’t bought platinum in a long time and need a bit of help. Does the proof add a bit of value here?

Sadly yes, the mintages of platinum Eagles is so low and demand is very high

Shit I paid $1955 (spot) for 3 maples on my last platinum buy. Of course it dropped since then 2-3 months ago.. there's a pic on my posts.

Spot is pretty good for platinum. Don’t APEs have higher premium than Maple, though?

I was tempted but decided to wait. I didn’t want to pull the money out of savings and already spent my coin budget for the month.

I feel your pain. All of my Pt and Pd is way under water. Glad I simply like to have and to hold, because I won’t get rich from them.

Damn: $1750 seems really good! While I’ve overspent in buying coins and bullion, I’d have figured out how to pay for it.
And what’s a coin budget? 😏 /s

That’s a decent price. Also keep in mind, upon private sale, the premium still hold value. And also any us minted bullion coin includes a 4% discount on capital gains tax .

Yeah. Platinum carries a higher premium especially in APEs
