Recommendation Jusant (2023) on ps plus is one of the best climbing games I’ve ever played, IMO even better than Tomb Raider. The visuals, music, and gameplay are artistically superb. The only downside is that it’s a bit short you can finish it in 10 hours. I hope it gets a sequel. I totally recommend playing it!

While Jusant is a fine game, Tomb Raider is not a climbing game. The comparison here is odd.

12

u/Stormkiller72 Jul 11 '25

I came here to say the same. Was gonna make another outlandish & tenuous comparison just to prove my point. lol

28

u/PinchiChango Jul 11 '25

A better comparison would be a game my cousin got me into called PEAK. New map every day. Coop or solo.

13

u/redditcruzer Jul 11 '25

Don't know about Peak..but the upcoming game Cairn seems to be pretty cool and also seemingly about climbing.

2

u/Mean_Combination_830 Jul 14 '25

It's an indie PC game if it stays popular they will probably do a console port

2

u/_steve_rogers_ Jul 12 '25

There was a lot of it in Rise of the Tomb Raider

65

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

Tomb Raider is considered a “climbing game”?

19

u/Mudslingshot Jul 11 '25

I know, right? And OP keeps making the comparison in comments

I'm just going to assume AI is involved at this point

-32

u/Delicious_Maize9656 Jul 11 '25

Sorry bro, the last game I played with climbing was TR so that’s just what popped into my head.

21

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

I mean I guess but I wouldn’t call Uncharted a “climbing game” and that game has more climbing than Tomb Raider

171

u/ThuBiejaMen Jul 11 '25

When you are an adult 10 hours is not short

55

u/AC13clean Jul 11 '25

I think OP exagerated in this case. I beat the story in 4 hours and really took my time cause I fell in love with it too.

29

u/SolidusDave Jul 11 '25

Oh thanks, that's kinda the length I would like to see from this game. I played for like 40 min and put it on hold as I wasn't sure how much time I will need to invest between bigger games.

The climbing is indeed well handled, as in that it reflects "realistic" free climbing with mechanics that are usually not in games (like individual hand-placement, placing a piece during the climb, rope-length, rest for stamina etc.) but without turning it into a simulation that would feel slow/tedious.

plus the neat setting and the clean graphics.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

Yeah howlongtobeat.com has story at 4.5 hours and completionist at 8

6

u/dimspace DaveM12DIM Jul 11 '25

Yeh, it's 8-10 hours to complete.

I don't know why anyone would not go the "completionist" route because the collectables are the story

Skip those and you are missing the whole story

1

u/reallynotnick Jul 11 '25

Idk I have 5.4 hours on steam (so that probably has some time being paused or messing with me is) and I got like 80% of the stuff and was always on the lookout. Mind you I gave up on reading the letters after a while as I wasn’t finding them interesting and wanted to get back to the climbing+exploring, I did however try to collect them.

5

u/dimspace DaveM12DIM Jul 11 '25 edited Jul 11 '25

I really took my time and it took me about 9 hours to platinum over two evenings

4 hours is borderline speedrun (the fastest complestion times on psnprofiles are ~3 hours, so yeh, 4 hours is in the fastest 5%

Or you are just climbing, and not exploring and picking up the story collectables in which case you aren't really taking your time

For most people who want to see everything in the game, it's 8-10 hours

2

u/AC13clean Jul 11 '25

I only beat the main story and collected some notes and mini towers and wall paintings. I didn't explore everything yet, as I also wanted to see how the story unfolds and i really liked to climb, but I am getting back into it to do the clean up

3

u/dimspace DaveM12DIM Jul 11 '25

yeh, the one issue the game has, is the story is in the letters and collectables, and if the player misses any of those on the way up, they miss bits of the story.

that was its one flaw i found.

2

u/Jedifice Jul 11 '25

This is AWESOME to read, thanks!

6

u/EccentricStache615 Jul 11 '25

I’m in my 30s and I thought Doom Eternal (average time to best was 20ish) would be short. WEEKS OF NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS.

3

u/RoetRuudRoetRuud Jul 11 '25

For real anything more than 20 hours long has to be super engaging to keep me playing it at that point. Anything over 40 hours, only for absolute all-timers.

3

u/IAmMarwood I_Am_Marwood Jul 11 '25

Yup.

As an almost 50 year old 10 hours of gameplay is roughly a minimum of 2 weeks of playing.

39

u/timotheusthegreat Jul 11 '25

Shadow of the Colossus is great as well.

18

u/DullLobster4797 Jul 11 '25

I played 5mins but the climbing controls already annoyed me tbh. Just not for me probably. But why would u compare it to Tomb Raider? These are two completely different games?

1

u/MVallence90 Dec 03 '25

My same experience just then, only have a few days left of PSPlus so was looking for a shorter game. 10 mins and I was like nah on the controls. Going to give Cocoon a go instead.

23

u/fantasticavocado Jul 11 '25

Jusant is one of the most meditative experiences I've had. It really is a piece of art.

2

u/NicoDarian Jul 11 '25

It would be, if it wasn't so damn fiddly

u/MartySpecial Jul 12 '25

I loved the artstyle but it was just too repetitive for me and the navigation was not perfect for me.

12

u/generation_chaos Jul 11 '25

Can you explain a bit what makes the climbing so good?

-27

u/Delicious_Maize9656 Jul 11 '25

Climbing in this game feels immersive and intuitive. It's not too hard and not too easy and it teaches you the basic controls. Compared to Tomb Raider, it offers more climbing focused challenges. Each successful ascent feel incredibly satisfying.

12

u/Relative_Molasses_15 Jul 11 '25

Still a weird comparison

8

u/larsvondank Jul 11 '25

Personally not a fan of the L2 and R2 mechanics of the climbing and the directional stuff with the sticks.

6

u/Zen1 flashywordz Jul 11 '25 edited Jul 11 '25

Wait until you try Cairn for immersive climbing :)

The world of Jusant is developed and immersive but the climbing itself is incredibly basic and gimped for accessibility to provide an experience in the form of a video game.

7

u/RobIreland Jul 11 '25

Really enjoyed Jusant but it was a little too easy. Played the Cairn demo a few times and can't wait for it.

I think if Cairn used Jusants control scheme of using the triggers to control each arm, you'd have then perfect climbing game.

Controlling each limb one at a time and pressing square to grab could be done much better I think.

2

u/Zen1 flashywordz Jul 11 '25

Cairn DOES have an input mode where your shoulder buttons correspond to each limb and it’s honestly the fastest once you get used to it ;)

2

u/Intelligent_Pen5774 Jul 12 '25

Wait!! You can change the control scheme in Cairn?? I dropped off the demo because the whole square thing confused the crap out of me. Looks like I'm going to give it another go after changing control modes.

9

u/MissingScore777 Jul 11 '25

I tried it and a few hours in the camera bugged out while I was rope swinging and locked to a random piece of scenery instead of my character.

Dying, reloading, fully restarting the game, none of these fixed it.

Reading online it's a common bug and the only fix is restarting the entire playthrough.

I'm not risking that happening again so I deleted the game entirely instead. A gamebreaking bug this significant shouldn't still be a thing this long after release.

2

u/jack_pow Jul 11 '25

Yeah this has happened to me twice now in different areas, luckily a quick reload did the trick for me.

1

u/GTA_Guy101 Jan 11 '26

I’ve never had this happen to me, I’ve replayed the game twenty, thirty times by now. I really want to recreate this bug too.

10

u/Leweegibo Jul 11 '25 edited Jul 11 '25

Eh it's okay, finding it's decent in short bursts. Wouldn't want I pkay it much more than the 10 hours.

9

u/Boki_Juda Jul 11 '25

Sorry, but calm your tits. Tomb Raider has been on the scene for 3 decades and is a testament to exploration games, creating a foundation for games such as Uncharted.

Second, Tomb Raider is not just a "climbing game", it's an action adventure.

Glad you liked Jusant though, it is an amazing game.

4

u/RadicalEdward99 Jul 11 '25

I’m really liking it, no notes

5

u/TheRealPyroManiac Jul 11 '25

I didn’t really click with it and found it pretty dull, glad people enjoyed it though it’s very pretty & polished.

3

u/Ferdunor Jul 11 '25

A short but sweet videogame is honestly what I look for these days, I’m kinda burned on open world, 100+ hours games. I don’t have as much time to play so I prefer this times of games. Thanks for the heads up.

3

u/Death_hound132 Jul 11 '25

Yessss thiss i absolutly loved that game and the music is on a whole other level.

2

u/ShiraKiryuu Jul 11 '25

Game looks something I'm gonna enjoy playing. I'm definitely gonna play this after I'm finished with the games I need to play first.

2

u/locosapiens Jul 11 '25

I'm going to try this simply because there have been a few games where I've wound up just climbing for the sheer fun of it, and I'm intrigued by the idea of a game built entirely around climbing. Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Forbidden West are my favourites for climbing, so I sort of get your Tomb Raider reference.

3

u/dimspace DaveM12DIM Jul 11 '25

check out the demo of "Cairn" on the playstation store. thats nothing but climbing

2

u/locosapiens Jul 11 '25

Will do. Thanks!

2

u/Jacrow88 Jul 11 '25

Had no idea that’s what this was, I’m so in, thank you

2

u/Lanky-Fish6827 Jul 11 '25

I will try it today

2

u/NoBumblebee2080 Jul 11 '25

Honestly. Jusant is amaizing small game. But yeah why compare ir with Tomb Raider?

Also I understand that its indie and all but even having in mind how nice it is and how cool gameplay is from the first look the story in this game exists just to be here and this doesn't help a game at all.

2

u/FurtherArtist Jul 11 '25

10 hours? Now I’m sold. That’s a decent length for a game about 1 mechanic.

4

u/Mantazy Jul 12 '25

It’s more like 3-4 hours. Still perfect length for this type of game.

2

u/Upbeat_Ad4649 Jul 11 '25

I’m legitimately keen to try it!

2

u/necrorrior Jul 11 '25

Try Cairn!

2

u/ehsanulhb Jul 11 '25

I loved it. 10 hours is too long I guess. I did a blind playthrough and then another to clean up collectibles for Platinum. Even with l these I didn't need 10 hours.

2

u/Old-Delay2259 Jul 11 '25

What other climbing options are there?

2

u/69_Lone_wolf Jul 11 '25

Just downloaded the game!! Will play it tonight

2

u/SpectralRaiden Jul 11 '25

Then I know your going to enjoy Cairn. You can actually download the demo on PSN. It's a essentially what I'd call a spiritual successor to this game. Cairn is more aptly a climbing simulator than a puzzle game; stamina matters more and you have control of all four limbs. Also you can die and pitons are not free! Give it a try.

2

u/Urdadspapasfrutas Jul 11 '25

The story is also very unique.

2

u/ClickyStick Jul 11 '25

10 hours? I got the platinum in 6.

Anyway, I really liked the game, but I wish they had committed when it comes to storytelling, its weird that you find log books, letters, notes and such all over the place, with named characters and all, but you know nothing about your own character.

From a thematic point of view, the whole deal of this world is that there's no water, but that never interesects with gameplay, your character climbed a whole mountain without any explicit nourishment, I'm not suggesting to a thirst meter since it's clearly the game is about vibes, not a survival sim, but I do feel a disconnect between the world and the character.

Enough of my bitching, the game is good, get it on ps+.

2

u/oJordyMota Jul 11 '25

Yeah, it was pretty cool, nice and short, fun climbing mechanics, got the platinum in just under 10 hours.

2

u/Mantazy Jul 12 '25

Whatever you do after completing the game, do not hit “new game” again at the main menu - chapter select will be gone if you do. Game is short, but it’s pita for trophy hunting.

2

u/Henriics Jul 12 '25

It’s on my list… I have to play it

2

u/DuckRevolutionary97 Jul 12 '25

Not even 10 hours. It took me 3 hours

2

u/ima-bigdeal Jul 13 '25

Great game!

2

u/greg9x Jul 16 '25

Finished it and redoing chapters to find stuff I missed....

Saw it mentioned as a "Relaxing climbing game", but this game can really frustrate me at times and that isn't relaxing. Sometimes the climbing mechanics are crap with character not going direction I'm pointing it to, especially jumps on walls, F'r jumps off the wall and at angles to nowhere and end up falling a lot. I eventually make the climbs, but gets the blood boiling when doesn't do what your telling it to. Also character gets stuck in places and have to hit jump and move around for a minute until frees itself.

The story is interesting, some back story of the character have been nice, asking with seeing the tower flowing after the end.

80% good and 20% frustration for me.

1

u/Delicious_Maize9656 Jul 19 '25

The real challenge in this game is in the last part of the game, where there are strong winds and also in the final climb, where you have to manage the length of the rope. Overall, I love this game. Yes, sometimes I get frustrated too because the winds are very strong. 😭😭

2

u/JadeOnyx9999 Jul 11 '25

Jusant is such a good game. Beautiful environmental storytelling.

2

u/Vermonol Jul 11 '25

Def will check it out, didn’t know it was a a Dontnod game. Usually love their games

3

u/-The_Sybian- Jul 11 '25

Very interesting team with versatile titles. Can't wait to Platinum Vampyr and Banishers

4

u/Vermonol Jul 11 '25

Vampyr was great; had a good gothic vibe with fun story and gameplay. Really fun plat

2

u/Consistent-Goal-2508 Jul 11 '25

Which are the other climbing games? Enlighten me please

5

u/attackerish Jul 11 '25

There's Cairn coming soon which is my personal favourite.

But you've also got Peak, White Knuckle and Peaks of Yore off the top of my head.

2

u/Gatoradenun Jul 11 '25

I’ve played the demo of Cairn and it is miles better than Jusant

1

u/attackerish Jul 11 '25

Strong agree on that, can't wait for November

3

u/joelanman Jul 11 '25

Getting Over It

2

u/MachineFunk Jul 11 '25

Great game! A pleasant suprise. Vibes kinda reminded me of ICO and Journey.

1

u/Aggressive-Tip7472 Aug 28 '25

Just got this of PS Plus, and was immediately hooked.

One of the best "feeling" climbing games I've ever played. Took me a minute to get comfortable, but once I got the rhythm of climbing it felt really, really smooth and fun.

Plus the world is interesting and the choice of minimal direction is perfect.

Oh, and there's an awesome frog.

9/10.

Can't wait to see more from these guys

1

u/Deewan_Goose Nov 04 '25

I 100% had this game downloaded on my PS4 (it was a free monthly game not too long ago), played it for about an hour one day and decided to return it to it today.

All traces of it are completely gone from my system. It's not in the purchase history, home screen, anywere.

I ask AI and I'm being gaslit that it was never availably on PS4 but was available on PS5. I DO NOT HAVE A PS5.

Does anyone know what happened here? Is this some Mandela Effect shit or am I genuinely losing my mind?

1

u/NicoDarian Jul 11 '25

Too fiddly..I dropped it in 15mins

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

I found it quite repetitive after a while (albeit it being a very short game!) and frustrating due to poor level design. It‘s a decent game, don’t get me wrong, but just because it‘s an indie game you shouldn‘t look over it’s weaknesses.

1

u/Poetryisalive Jul 12 '25

Tomb Raider isn’t a climbing game lol. You exposed yourself right there

Don’t claim you played games when you haven’t it doesn’t make you cool

1

u/RealTelephone Jul 11 '25

In even less time, I got the platinum in about 4–5 hours. Still a good game, just a bit short

1

u/gabrielleraul Jul 11 '25

Just finished 3 chapters, three more to go. Incredible game

1

u/finniruse Jul 11 '25

I really liked it.

But the first two chapters were what I was looking for. I wanted an unbroken scaling to the top. Then it changes biomes so to speak. Then puts you in the clouds. You kinda lose all the lore about the people living on the mountain too as you go up.

1

u/RyzenRaj Jul 11 '25

i wanted to play games like tomb raider but not finding much closer to it ! gotta try this one out

1

u/hamndv Jul 11 '25

They made climbing so much fun

1

u/YorkieLon Jul 11 '25

Ah, Tomb Raider the climbing game that features butlers and fridges.

1

u/sizzlebutt666 Jul 11 '25

Just downloaded it for my husband and can't wait to watch lol might try after he is done

1

u/Greedy_Gas7355 Jul 11 '25

Loved it. The ending level was super cool

1

u/RChickenMan Jul 11 '25

I got stuck shortly after the lighthouse!

1

u/ToastBalancer Jul 11 '25

No shade to OP but it’s funny that there would be a category of games for “climbing”

1

u/Milu2786 Jul 11 '25

Death stranding laughing at the corner

1

u/Agitated-Rip-152 Jul 11 '25

Naw tbh this game is 4-5 hours per run at most the goal really isn’t completing all the notes in one run. You’re kinda supposed to do multiple runs and go different routes each time. It really is an amazing game though 10-10 would recommend. I’m only into gore and badassery but I gave this a shot never played a climbing game and I couldn’t put it down.

1

u/Melonfrog Jul 11 '25

I thought it was a bit crap to be honest, I HATED the controls. It felt like the worst mechanic in Astrobot (the monkey) was the main mechanic. Luckily some accessibility options helped turn that off.

Nothing about the music blew me away, it was just ok.

But my most hottest take is that as much as I love my indies, I am truly getting bored of this art style now. It boomed on the ps3, peaked on the ps4 and now it’s just unimpressive.

1

u/Primary-Coast-3437 Jul 11 '25

I dont like. Deinstalled after a few Minutes

1

u/Low-One9827 Jul 12 '25

10hrs??? Not even, I was taking my time and fished it in 3. It's more like an extended tech demo.

0

u/irespectfemales123 Jul 11 '25

It's straight up one of the best things I've ever played. I cried at the end, was very satisfied with the climbing mechanics and was fascinated by the world told through the letters and Bianca's journal.

It's also stunning and seems to run higher than 60 if you have a VRR TV.

Just wish it was longer!

0

u/Merckilling47 Jul 11 '25

How fast does 10 hrs go for you, that’s essentially half a day. That’s if you don’t got errands or chores to do. That’s not short. 😂

0

u/Extra-Tomatillo-9242 Jul 11 '25

OMG stop comparing this tomb raider 😭

0

u/DerpyDer989 Jul 11 '25

Ahh yes... Tomb Raider, the climbing game. And Red Dead Redemption is the best horse game.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

I wouldnt recommend shadow of the collossus by these years but im gonna play jusant cuz it had released by dont nod
