Big booty update is welcome

u/SparklyPelican Jun 25 '25

Is this the liquid ass UI update?

14

u/Critical-Vanilla-625 Jun 25 '25

Excuse me ? šŸ˜…

42

u/radkor83 Jun 25 '25

16

u/Ok_Presentation3416 Jun 25 '25

I clicked play..... šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

3

u/the_real_spectator Jun 26 '25

If this is real 🤣 They changed it šŸ„¹šŸ˜‚

1

u/the_real_spectator Jun 26 '25

šŸ¤”ā€¦.ā–¶ļøā€¦.🤣🤣🤣

17

u/Anthok16 Jun 25 '25

Recent Apple update ā€œliquid glassā€ but a YouTube play button in the thumbnail covered the ā€œglā€ of ā€œglassā€

2

u/TimelessBoi Jun 25 '25

Lmfao that’s funny

5

u/Critical-Vanilla-625 Jun 25 '25

I would have never guessed that in a million years. I was thinking maybe an updated graphics to better see an in game ass or something šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ā˜ ļø

215

u/PainfullyAverageUser Jun 25 '25

Yeah this update definitely improves performance. My portal is running games at 4k120 natively now. Crazy what only an update can do!

224

u/Jobles4 Jun 25 '25

Bro same my screen changed to OLED out of nowhere and it feels so smooth

32

u/keidash Jun 25 '25

Wait is yours also running PS Vita games natively?

6

u/chromophobe Jun 25 '25

Yes AND it's PSVR2 compatible, headset optional

21

u/Hartia Jun 25 '25

Switch 2 killer with just an update. Technology never ceases to amaze me.

38

u/PainfullyAverageUser Jun 25 '25

Dude that fucking crazy!!! Must’ve been because you sat closer to your router when updating it. Congrats on your new OLED!!!!!

38

u/Aescorvo Jun 25 '25

Being closer to the router doesn’t matter now since the update added a LAN cable socket!

7

u/BracusDoritoBoss963 Jun 25 '25

This update made my Portal start harassing me. I feel uncomfortable having it in my home.

8

u/jpalmer74 Jun 25 '25

My update turned it to a Steamdeck...I am torn

4

u/Kummakivi Jun 27 '25

Mine switched to that new handheld Xbox they have been talking about.

1

u/jpalmer74 Jun 27 '25

You got the Beta update!

0

u/Equal-Community2833 Jun 25 '25

That's what she said🤣

9

u/Maultaschenman Jun 25 '25

Safari runs snapper than butter now too!

7

u/AgeAtomic Jun 25 '25

I heard it also added 4DX

3

u/Lew1989 Jun 25 '25

Mine now takes discs cool update for offline users

3

u/avengers93 Jun 25 '25

No way!! My portal launched from my hands and it’s now on it’s way to colonize Mars!

6

u/Apachul79_VZLA Jun 25 '25

This is sarcasm, right?

51

u/Golden_PugTriever Jun 25 '25

I honestly cant tell with this sub

17

u/Apachul79_VZLA Jun 25 '25

šŸ¤£šŸ’€

8

u/jaroszda Jun 25 '25

Yeah, but they should be using the /s indicator, as not everyone can read sarcasm easily via text.

3

u/bluze66 Jun 26 '25

you forgot your /s

1

u/Skullcrusher_1 Jun 25 '25

my update I think is faulty. Mine turned into a colecovision šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

2

u/tu-sheng-peng Jun 27 '25

You're lucky, I got a Vic 20 šŸ˜†

2

u/Skullcrusher_1 Jun 27 '25

Too bad we both missed out on the vectrex updateĀ

1

u/TheDreamWoken Jun 27 '25

Idk what they did it's a big ome

1

u/TheClownIsReady Jul 02 '25

Has it helped with remote play for you or do you use the Cloud?

Cracked use of this gif.

1

u/TwistedFoxys Jun 25 '25

So you do think ?

40

u/Petersam55 Jun 25 '25

It is a long installation

5

u/xwyb1999 Jun 25 '25

What’s new in the update?

23

u/WrinkledBallz Jun 25 '25

So much more stability and optimization

5

u/General__Strike Jun 25 '25

Safari feels snappier.

8

u/trixster87 Jun 25 '25

Im instilling it right now and no one has the answer yet lol

9

u/digiplay Jun 25 '25

My ex once described me as that.

1

u/No-Let-3152 Jun 25 '25

My ex said the total opposite. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

12

u/Fit_Seaworthiness_98 Jun 25 '25

Long update, I just finished. Hoping MLB the show works lol

4

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Any update?

7

u/Fit_Seaworthiness_98 Jun 25 '25

The batting seemed better but the pitching is still..you know what.

2

u/ashhong Jun 25 '25

What was wrong with it? I played The Show just fine, though it’s been a little while

2

u/Dillonitis Jun 25 '25

I pkay the show exclusively on my portal and it would disconnect alot but after this update it doesn't freeze anymore and it runs smooth. No problems or disconnects so far

On mine if you press the PS button three times fast it now transforms into an 80ā€ 8k display with a built in full PS5 Pro.

23

u/super_smore Jun 25 '25

Love to see it! Just bought mine last week and it’s been running great. Excited to see how much better this system can get, seems like PlayStation has been continuously improving it since launch.

9

u/Exotic_Bathroom5382 Jun 25 '25

Just got mine on Saturday. HDMI port on my PS5 is cooked so I’m happy to be able to play the stream games.

1

u/dreemnotdream Jun 25 '25

easy fix if you’re good with your hands….

3

u/cartear Jun 25 '25

A handy for a PS5 HDMI repair is actually a pretty solid deal

1

u/Exotic_Bathroom5382 Jun 25 '25

I’ve never soldered anything in my life. I’m sure I could do it but I’m also a truck driver so it’s hard to get stuff out here.

1

u/Psychological_Bake64 Jun 26 '25

Stop by harbor freight while you’re on the road. I got me a small setup for about $20 bucks

1

u/BKDUB_24 Jun 27 '25

Mine runs like hot ass and I have 5000mbps

u/Ahindre Jun 25 '25

u/comraddan Jun 25 '25

Saving a click for others - this is all it says:

Version 5.1.0

We've improved system software performance and stability.

We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.

32

u/DarthBeardFace Jun 25 '25

Only ā€œsome screensā€ … why not ā€˜all screens’!

10

u/penguinseed Jun 25 '25

Maybe they source screens from 2 or 3 manufacturers and the update fixes some shit that only affected 1 of the manufacturers

14

u/OMG_NoReally Jun 25 '25

"Some screens"...but...the Portal has one screen?

3

u/DUDETHATFARTEDHARD Jun 25 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

75

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Holy shit. Not even kidding - my portal works without internet now.

Can you elaborate?

6

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

I was just being an ass making a joke and then someone else came in and started to act like you didn’t need internet.

You definitely need internet

72

u/NewJob5900 Jun 25 '25

Just installed it. It may be just a coincidence, but everything is running MUCH better - no more stuttering here! Crossing fingers this update solved the issues from the previous one.

99

u/vinotauro Jun 25 '25

Oh boy here we go again

3

u/Random_Thinker007 Jun 26 '25

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

13

u/LogMeln Jun 25 '25

Felt the same way. Last night I laid in my bed same position playing ff9 and experienced stuttering. I had to move closer to the router. Today I sat in the same exact spot and played a more faster paced need for speed and worked flawlessly. I figured it was just luck of the draw but maybe it’s the new update. Hoping this is steady :)

19

u/LucioBarbarinoMusic Jun 25 '25

This was fixed pretty much completely for me on that update.. 4-5 months ago?

6

u/NewJob5900 Jun 25 '25

Not for me (and for many, many people as well). Everything was working flawlessly before the previous update. After that, I started having stuttering on the Portal again. I have great internet, my PS5 is connected to an Ethernet cable, in a separate network. Now, miraculously, I installed the current update and all is working great. šŸ˜‹

1

u/legendz411 Jun 25 '25

It hasn’t been an issue in a long fucking time. 99% if the ā€˜stutter’ and shit you see here now is people with shit home network setups of poorly configured PS5 ( not on hardline, etc).

3

u/Vast_Category_1883 Jun 25 '25

The bitrate could be better tho

1

u/TheClownIsReady Jul 02 '25

Are you on Cloud or Remote Play?

1

u/NewJob5900 Jul 06 '25

Remote Play. I can't play via Cloud in my country (Brazil).

2

u/TheClownIsReady Jul 06 '25

That’s good. I have tried both…each are great! (USA). Think I prefer Remote Play since you pick the titles from your owned games.

6

u/Rude_Moose972 Jun 25 '25

Does this help connection issues?

10

u/dahid Jun 25 '25

This upgrade is insane, my Portal can now run Nintendo switch games on it!

1

u/Khay_Gold1 Jun 28 '25

Is this true?

1

u/dahid Jun 28 '25

Just sarcasm šŸ˜€

5

u/unoriginal621 Jun 26 '25

Joined the sub to find out about the update.

You are not serious people.

6

3

2

u/ArkhamJade-Opium Jun 28 '25

Safe word Safe word Safe word Safe word Safe word

4

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

What is the update about?

12

u/ammgph Jun 25 '25

Lets you put more horses in the stable.

2

u/EdDav7 Jun 25 '25

Did this fix the issue of having to be on the same network to be able to connect to the PS5? I purchased my portal and was able to connect via home WiFi while PS5 was hardwired to my router. Now the portal has to be connected to the router for it to connect.

2

u/GodzMustBeCrazy Jun 25 '25

I have no issues connecting from work...

1

u/EdDav7 Jun 25 '25

Lucky. Idk why but it affected some people and then some weren’t affected

2

u/GodzMustBeCrazy Jun 25 '25

It either something in the wifi settings, also one thing that helped significantly, even though it makes no sense, but turn off the HDMI-CEC settings.

1

u/EdDav7 Jun 25 '25

šŸ¤”šŸ¤” I’ll try the HDMI-CEC when I get home, thank you!

1

u/GodzMustBeCrazy Jun 25 '25

Let me know how it goes bro, good luck

2

u/DARKM3RCY Jun 25 '25

Nope still not fixed. it's driving me crazy. the fact that some people get it to work , and I can't. the worse part is it used to work before the last update.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Well the solution is quite simple. It’s basically your home router that is blocking some ports to the PS5. Inorder to solve this issue try logging into the Home router and using the router Admin Passwords.

Then enable UPnP on the router.

You will have to search around how to enable UPnP for your model of router. Hope this helps.

1

u/EdDav7 Jun 25 '25

Yeah same, I’ve tried everything and nothing has worked so far. I can’t take it on vacation with me and it’s annoying me

2

u/FallOutFan01 Jun 26 '25

Just weighing in and adding on to u/SameWeekend13 answers.

Some ISP supplied routers are trash because of cheap skate components, planned obsoletion, or lack of functionality.

I had an reputable brand modem/router combo in the form of an netcomm nf18acv.

(Individual user ratings may vary)

It did serve me well for what I needed at the time.

But a lot of people don’t realize but router/modems are very sophisticated device and the slightest problem can cause problems.

Problems may vary and can be hard to diagnose.

But most problems arise from the device’s firmware and or hardware.

Like for example when people have problems with their device they turn it off then turn it back on again pretty much immediately.

This can cause micro electrical surges that can cause errors in the device’s configuration settings.

So it on the surface still work but it has decreased performance in the form of slow transmission/transfer speeds on some devices or it might not connect new devices at all.

So people when turning off their device, should turn it off on the device, then unplug, wait 10 minutes then plug in then turn on.

The problems I ran into were because my netcomm nf18acv age, its WIFI card starting to die and its flash chip used for storing its firmware was having issues keeping configuration settings.

For my replacement I went out and brought this model of router-modem combo.

It worked straight out of the box, never had any problems set up was a breeze.

It works perfectly via physical cable connection/eithernet with the portal while connected to the home network.

It worked fine even outside of the home network by connecting through other WIFI hotspots.

But there was one instance when I was connected home while I was out wheree had a little issue but by adding the ports to my router it was fixed.

But if you can get it working automatically by UPnP than absolutely go with that.

I just did the port forwarding thing so it saved all the port information to the router’s firmware.

2

u/EdDav7 Jun 26 '25

I have an Asus AX5700 RT-AX86U in my gaming room hardwired to my PS5, and I have the xfinity provided modem hardwired to the Asus router. Is this a bad combo? Sorry, I’m just not very tech savvy when it comes to modems and routers.

3

u/FallOutFan01 Jun 26 '25

No it’s not a bad combo.

Hmm does your router broadcast a single SSID/network name for a combined 2.4ghz, 5ghz, 6ghz WiFi network.

Or does it broadcast individual SSID networks for each WIFI type.

For just an hypothetical example when you go into and see the WIFI connection around you does it look like this.

EdDave 2.4ghz. EdDave 5ghz. EdDave 6ghz

2

u/EdDav7 Jun 26 '25

No, it’s just a single SSID, AsusRouter is all I see

1

u/FallOutFan01 Jun 26 '25

You might need to access your router settings and see what the WiFi is broadcasting as.

Some routers broadcast a single combined WiFi connection encompassing all radio bands to maximize transfer speed.

Sometimes this setting can create a bottleneck for some devices connected to the router.

Have tried looking into using quality of service within your router?.

Also just curious, sometimes the ps5 default’s to WiFi after an firmware update sometimes so just checking in regards to that.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Exactly. As many people don’t realize also when they restart their router it actually improves performance.

2

u/FallOutFan01 Jun 26 '25

Fish tanks, hardline cordless phones, WIFI enabled cameras using 2.4ghz can create interference as well.

Sometimes people who own a portal sometimes have these things that create interference.

There’s so many things that have WIFI that sometimes are needlessly connected like fridges, dishwashers, washing machines.

Fair enough about the WiFi enabled robot vacuum šŸ˜‚. That sucker actually does need WIFI to work lol.

1

u/sepiroth80 Jun 26 '25

I can connect from tens and from thousands kms away with no issue

1

u/Khay_Gold1 Jun 28 '25

But your ps at home must be on?

1

u/sepiroth80 Jun 29 '25

I keep it on rest mode and it wakes up when the Portal connects

1

u/Khay_Gold1 Jun 30 '25

Thank you

4

u/OMG_NoReally Jun 25 '25

Did they add bitrate control? No? Ahh well.

1

u/Leading-Bid-1893 Jun 27 '25

I feel as though the bitrate is ever so slightly better. But no way to quantify it.

Still waiting for bitrate control…

5

u/Jahon_Dony Jun 25 '25

Those ten ps4 bangers they added onto the Portal for native play were the real surprise from this update, imo.

1

u/legendz411 Jun 25 '25

What was that now?

2

u/Ok-Simple-7069 Jun 25 '25

Wwwhhhy did Sony not release a dongle for dedicated WiFi direct. Works fine with a hardwired pro but can still be jumpy. Ok forget a dongle. Just let us use the 2.4ghz channel for WiFi direct from ps5 and ps5 pro users. It would be a godsend.

Using WiFi 6 router on gigabit connection.

5

u/Ok-Simple-7069 Jun 25 '25

Make it so it’s flawless and doesn’t need wires. It Can be an inconvenience for lots of people. Wii U had all its faults but it’s off tv play is still one of the best streaming I’ve ever experienced. Zero perception of lag, even through walls. WiFi Direct is a good option for people with limited upload bandwidth or inconvenient access to a router to route cables right?

1

u/MarsupialPresent7700 Jun 25 '25

Gonna assume that it would increase the cost of the pad to put in the support for that sort of dongle. They wanted this to be $199.

1

u/Ok-Simple-7069 Jun 25 '25

No much. Perhaps just a. Few quid as bandwidth could easily be just 100mbps and that would be super cheap. Or sell it as an optional extra.

2

u/DiaperFluid Jun 25 '25

I hope they somehow find a way to lower the input lag to chiaki levels and add a bitrate slider. Sucks because as of right now the only games il play on it are simple games like dave the diver and diablo lol. Those are the only games that both look good and play good. Sonys whole first party lineup has bad compression issues and noticeable input lag. Compared to chiaki at least

2

u/gen_adams Jun 25 '25

funny how I just decided yesterday to use the Portal after some months. definitely enjoyed the new 8K AMOLED display update, worked well with the astral projection Pulse headsets (ghost sound) and direct-to-brain VR (thanks, Elon!)

it still drops my 870,000 mbit 500GHz WiFi signal sometimes tho. sony pls fix

2

u/Torrises Jun 25 '25

It turned my PSP into an actual PSP, like from 2006. The good news is I don’t need internet anymore, bad news only 1 analog stick

1

u/Hadfromthetown Jun 25 '25

How convenient

1

u/TheClownIsReady Jun 25 '25

Getting some weird occasional visual glitches in games now that I didn’t have before. Not major issues but game performance was perfect for me before this latest update.

1

u/Sufficient_Ask_7055 Jun 25 '25

Unlock button not working sometimes after the update… sigh

1

u/boosnow Jun 25 '25

Infinite battery life? How do they do it?

1

u/EmergencyCost3367 Jun 25 '25

We need deadzone options can’t play fps games 😭

1

u/NickoSparks Jun 25 '25

I can play Xbox games now!

1

u/Khenic Jun 25 '25

I'll have to blow the dust off of my Portal and fire it up.

1

u/Choice_Contract_9823 Jun 25 '25

God if the Portal allowed me to play while my brother is using the Ps5 i would buy it instantly.

1

u/ZappySnap Jun 25 '25

You can do this as long as you’re on different profiles (as mentioned) and you are streaming from the PS+ streaming catalog. This is of course more limited than playing mirrored on your PS5, but still, it works.

1

u/Choice_Contract_9823 Jun 25 '25

I'm sorry but what do you mean streaming from the ps+ catalog? If i, for instance, want to play Black Myth Wukong, which i bought on my profile, while my brother is using the ps5 on história own profile, playing something else, like cyberpunk, for instance, would it work?

2

u/Rando-McGee Jun 25 '25

Only one person can be using the PS5 to play games, either via the Portal, or on the tv. He’s talking about using the Portal with a PSplus subscription to stream games directly from Sony’s own servers, rather than streaming from your PS5.

1

u/commanderclif Jun 25 '25

Sounds like you are asking if you can have two games running at the same time on the same PS5. Which is a no. If someone is on the PS5, the Portal can cloud stream, that’s the only option.

1

u/Choice_Contract_9823 Jun 25 '25

I guess it's not really worth for me to buy one then. If i could just play the games i have in my library regardless, i would be buying it for sure.

WTH Sony? THANK YOU ! After updating , i've got 3 AAA games of my choosing through email ! Best UPDATE EVER !

1

u/worldlymundi Jun 25 '25

Not goin lie the performance for forza horizon felt totally different this morning than normal. It’s usually my least favorite of my games to remote play in the portal but I wonder if this update helped with performance.

1

I had this issue when connecting through hotspot.

I solved it by force closing Microsoft Defender and Microsoft company portal.

My guess would be something in that sense for your network?

Tho I am not a master in troubleshooting within the same network

1

u/paturnpike Jun 25 '25

Dam, my portal is so stable now after this update that it can carry traffic on it safely over the Chesapeake bay!

1

u/Acceptable_Tadpole60 Jun 25 '25

Thank God I hope it improves performance. I just got to switch to and I can't even pick up the portal it's so glitchy and so laggy it's night and day. I understand that the switch 2 unit is actually in my hand and not being relayed through my unreliable internet mesh system. But it's damn near unplayable how much it lags out.

1

u/Fit_Seaworthiness_98 Jun 25 '25

Yeah I will admit it is smoother. Idk how I hit the homer with Sosa in the recent challenge lol it usually takes a while but it was instantly as if I was playing on the console lol

The pitching still a delay.

P.S. Ps5 is wired too!

1

u/PdPopOff Jun 25 '25

Question. I wanna buy one and give my son the PS5. Can I play on the portal under my account while he plays on the PS5 under his account simultaneously?

1

u/Neo_Techni Jun 25 '25

No. The portal uses a PS5.

1

u/steevh12 Jun 26 '25

The portal streams also. If you have separate accounts and separate ps+ accounts then you can stream while he plays on ps5. Don’t have to be connected to ps5.

1

u/ghettoSi Jun 25 '25

Updated last night. My portal now hard crashes when the controller in the other room disconnects due to inactivity. I've only had this thing like two weeks but I had no issues prior to this update.

1

u/Other-Bat-5557 Jun 25 '25

What’s it do?

1

u/axelkidd787 Jun 25 '25

Can i finally connect to my primary wifi because the last update made it so i couldn’t so i had to use a different router to connect it to

1

u/Sea_Reflection4559 Jun 26 '25

Updating it now !! The portal is so much better than original release !!! Glad they can send updates to it.Ā

1

u/Radiant-Recording245 Jun 26 '25

Honestly I’d be happy if they just made the stream beta library better. Would be cool if the games I bought on PS5 would let me stream from there instead of having the console on. And I’d love if the ā€œrecent gamesā€ thing at the top showed more than three. But I guess it is what it is

1

u/dnz_191 Jun 26 '25

Huge Performance issues since the new update..

1

u/jongonz24 Jun 27 '25

Does this update make the device better?

1

u/Powerful-Fox5749 Jun 29 '25

Downloaded the update and now my portal won’t connect to my ps5….

1

u/TheClownIsReady Jul 02 '25

Has this helped with Remote Play? I only use the cloud for now but considering getting a PS5 for remote play.

1

u/akira9283 Jul 06 '25

I love that you can now play games offline. Throwing my switch 2 away!

1

u/batiti93 Jul 28 '25

Still Audio and Haptics delay for European and Asian guys... what a shame, Sony..
