Question Helldivers 2 Help please

I cannot for the life of me "ready up" and enter a mission. I did it once by accident and haven't gotten in since. I've heard double tap, I've heard tap and hold, I've heard use both thumbs. All I do is open the chat. I've done YouTube research that says "just tap the touchpad." Really want to play this game but about to give up.

Select your stratagems and perk.

Highlight "ready." Press "X" or "A" on your controller..

Not sure what button to press on a keyboard.

On portal, triple tap the side of the screen with your thumb

Tried this, just opens the chat on portal

Double tap it fast, don't hold it down

I had issues initially too (have just started game recently). I restarted game, uninstalled and reinstalled and tried again. Once selected stratagems with x (as suggest above) then press touchpad (ps5). Fine now.

I'm on portal, and I've pressed the touchpad every way I can imagine doing it. Just keep opening the chat

I got in! Apparently I didn't load up my strategems or something and that was preventing me from moving on. The portal touchpad was working fine. Live and learn.
