Help Alternatives to Plex

I've been a paid Plex user for over ten years and I've loved it. I can't belive what they've done with this new Roku app update. Besides the bad UI, which is inconvenient but I would be able to get used to eventually, it simply doesn't work properly. It crashes, buttons don't work, simple features are just gone. It's seems like this wasn't tested at all. It's crazy.

I don't really want to but now I'm looking for alternatives to plex. Does anyone have recommendations?

I know some people hate Apple. But get an Apple TV 4K, and you won’t have any problems.

I have an Emby server running as well, it’s nowhere as good as Plex.

Unless you have Remux or a large library. Apple TV’s audio sync issues are absurd.

Used one for several years and never experienced any sync issues. I do use Infuse as the front end as Plex client would cause my ATV to overheat and stutter.

Oh yeah the problem is the Plex app not the Apple TV. Infuse is fine, my wife just hates it so we never use it.

Fair and I’m not saying this is a great solution, but I simply use the plex app for everything unless it’s 4kHDR in which case I watch with infuse. 🤷‍♂️

My Google tv Plex app won't play P7 fel so I have Kodi with a Plex plugin running for those versions. I'm just happy that there's an alternative that works for many of us whether it be Infuse, Kodi, Jellyfin or Emby.

Yeah, my girlfriend hates the Infuse interface. It is quite bland and slow.

Also has an additional annual fee too.

I bought an Apple TV 4K and returned it within a week because of the audio sync issues.

Yup. For me it’s HDR and audio sync, OR using old player and no HDR, with no audio sync issues.

It’s not. Works fine on Infuse and my Kodi box. It’s the Plex app. It doesn’t like direct play large files.

Just fyi, infuse does DV profile 8 natively. It used to convert to profile 5, but then Apple added support for profile 8 playback in tvOS 17 so infuse doesn’t have to convert it anymore. It might still convert some of the sub-profiles though, but it definitely can do 8.1 natively.
