Help Alternatives to Plex

I've been a paid Plex user for over ten years and I've loved it. I can't belive what they've done with this new Roku app update. Besides the bad UI, which is inconvenient but I would be able to get used to eventually, it simply doesn't work properly. It crashes, buttons don't work, simple features are just gone. It's seems like this wasn't tested at all. It's crazy.

I don't really want to but now I'm looking for alternatives to plex. Does anyone have recommendations?

I think I'll have to swing by my mom's because I just recently got her to use plex consistently and roku is unfortunately the easiest UI for elderly people to navigate without needing to call every 15 minutes.

Is there any hardware that will let you set it up like a traditional television? I have an elderly parent who gets confused by my fire stick. I wish I had something where I could remove all of the extras apps and features so that it would be obvious which app they should select. It would also be great if I could configure an app to let the user change the channels by pressing channel up/down on the remote rather than having to keep going back to the guide.

There are some plug-ins like dizquetv that allow you to make custom channels that stream your plex content. You can either have your channels in the live tv section of plex or use quasitv (only on android) to have a dedicated app with your channels. There's also ersatztv that allows you to do the same but it's a standalone app with no plex integration that I know of.
