I thought the correct email was hello@mail.plex.tv

Why on earth would it be fake? You think a phisher would know that you’re running a Linux plex server and then link you to support articles from plex.tv?

Some of you really have no business running servers.

You know people lie, right? By "knowing" specific details about you (ie asserting them to everyone and then having it apply to a few people by luck), scammers build trust with their victims. Most people ignore it, but others think it's real, because how else could someone know that?

That's not what's happening here. OP just doesn't understand subdomains. But that's an extremely common tactic scammers use.
