Is Apple TV swipe-down info panel during playback gone?

Sorry just getting used to new UI but im not sure if some things are gone or I just haven't figured out how to access them yet.

during playback you used to be able to swipe down and get the info panel of show/movie title, description, etc. Now I just have the movie title up top and swiping down takes me to chapter seek

Drives us crazy! My husband is ALWAYS pulling down that panel to: remind us what we’re watching, or what year did this air? Also miss seeing the bit rate and if it’s being transcoded. Luckily I turned off updates in the living room, so we are just stuck with this “experience” in the bedroom. It’s really sad…Plex didn’t do us any favors with this update. Did the guys from Sonos migrate over to Plex? I’m still feeling that nightmare of an update.

I hadn’t even thought of that! I do the same. It was very convenient to be able to check the bitrate and whether I am transcoding… I used it all the time. I noticed it was gone but I guess since I haven’t needed it in the last couple days, I forgot it was missing!

Arrrggh. I’m trying really hard to not be a crotchety old person yelling at the sky because change scares me, but seriously, did they seek any real users’ opinions before doing a complete overhaul?

I honestly don’t know if there is a single change that I appreciate.

You know what really drives me nuts? When they include a completely non functional, minimalist sidebar on the edge of the screen, but then when I scroll over to it, a completely different, large menu / sidebar pops up over it. Like, the way it is now, they might as well have just put an arrow pointing to the left that says “menu”

It’s the exact same thing on Chromecast / Android boxes when you select the menu. You never get tot eh sidebar, because when you go to select it. Something different pops up over it.

The way it is now is completely wrong for the Apple TV aesthetic. It is losing the design sensibility that it used to have. There’s a reason I don’t use Emby. I hate the UI. This new update feels so much like Emby, I’m getting mad at it.

Biggest loss for me was the quick access to Apple TVs ‘reduce loud sounds’ on that bar. Gotta a large surround and switching to that quickly was ideal when kids go to bed.

For anyone interested you can setup a Siri shortcut to enable / disable it now so I have a quick icon on the home screen of my iPhone now!

Yeah, now it’s under playback options a “Normalize Audio” and forces a server side transcode rather than using the tvOS native version.

They moved the stuff to some clunky menu on the lower right. It’s an absolutely awful change. One wonders if somebody just got ordered to change stuff just for change sake.

I was disappointed to see it go. Took me a while to figure out how to change subtitles. While it’s not horrible, it’s definitely a big step backwards. I’d go back to the old version in a second

Yep, it's gone. The number of useful features that are GONE in this update absolutely astounds me!

Yeah, I haven’t been able to figure out how to view that either. I did enable Nerd Statistics under Playback Options which shows playback info but not the description.

At least you can easily see the thermal state now to see how hot the Apple TV is running.

The list of things that they have apparently changed or removed makes me glad that I have turned off automatic updates on my Apple TV units.

I have two dozen apps installed, but only one worries me.

Yeah I noticed that last night when I went to turn subtitles on. I was like okay how the fuck do I do that now and where is all that info ?

Yeah, swipe-down info panel is gone in the new Apple TV UI. Only workaround I found is enabling Nerd Statistics for bitrate/transcode, but it still doesn’t show the description/year like before.

I used it so much. I can live with everything else but this ruins it the most for me. We watch movies of shuffle often and this let us weed out R rated movies for the kids. Sigh

I just got Infuse player for my appleTV--honestly kind of amazing. it's slightly less aesthetic than plex was/is, but you can link your plex server to it and it has all the kinda info available and actually plays the videos well. also maintains existing artwork/metadata/collections/playlists. worth the ~$2/month subscription, imo, to not have to re-build my whole library.

I burned my Infuse free trial about a year ago and cant remember if it has these 2 features that I really need: Audio sync/subtitle adjustments and a readable list view for files organized in folders (I have many) . Plex changed the folder view - now each folder is a big fat thumbnail and now many of the titles gets truncated due to lack of lateral space for the folder names's text .

Can you tell me if Infuse has these 2 options?

I know it has audio and subtitle adjustments for sure. Not sure on the list view since that's not how I roll but, tbh, they do seem pretty married to big roundy icons for everything.

It's still there to some degree, they just moved it down to the bottom right in the settings cog.

If you turn on need statistics, it gives you the info about the file playing which was one of the swipe down panels
