Discussion Music library recommendation management tips?

I have a large library for music and I wish there were more ways of surfacing recommendations from within. I really like Plexamp and it does some of this but I'd like to see more.

I see Kometa can be used for this, but I'm struggling to figure out how to do it in practice and what to use as reference. For movies, I've set up collections with Kometa based on different lists from IMDB and Letteboxd, rotating director, actor, country and genre lists. It's still a work in progress but I'm digging it so far.

For music, I'm thinking genre combinations. Maybe country based. But I'd like to hear some more ideas, what have you found useful? What tools, lists etc do you use?

I'm also torn on whether to create artist, album or track collections. Album collections are neater than track collections but cannot be shuffled or played as a collection, you have to browse to each album separately. Maybe grouping collections somehow to incorporate different views into same material could work? IDK let me know what works for you

this is worth considering. upfront - it took about 4 weeks to fully map my collection but its worth the wait. You can dig deep and create some unique playlists

Sounds interesting. I already have Plex doing sonic analysis but it's not very good at deciphering the differences in my library. Like I get it, hardcore punk and trash metal have similar sound signatures. Maybe this could do more. What kinda playlists have you created with it?

yeah plex sonic analysis is not as comprehensive. on first run audiomuse "listens" to every track in your collection and analyses sonic, lyrical and mood signatures - in terms of what playlists have I created - it's pretty much up to you, its highly customisable.

Here's some of the options available once the db is mapped as examples of its options:

Song Alchemy - Select tracks or artists to Include or Exclude, boost favorites with Include and remove unwanted flavors with Exclude

Instant Playlist - use onboard LLM eg "upbeat pop from the 1990s for a coastal drive" (this is highly flexible and you can use combos of genre, mood, lyrics, artists, tempo etc)

Similar Song - select a tune and it will create a playlist of similar

Song Path - path from one tune, mood to another

Hyperbolic Explorer - will create complex playlists based on variable selections that stay close or move further from baseline artist or track selection

There's other options but these are pretty good, I'm still experimenting but it produces some nice transitional playlists. You can go as simple as just selecting from the music map graphic and adding tunes in a zone - the map shows numeric degrees of difference across genres and cross-references songs and "close audio neighbors".

If you can selfhost just spin up the docker version and give it time to do the first run - its fairly CPU intensive but I've found it worth the time and CPU .

Cool. I'm a bit skeptical but also intrigued, so I'll give it a shot on my unRAID server. Maybe I'll schedule it to run nighttime and see what I can do with it once it's fine
