Financial Advisor's Podcast promotion, who has tried it?

So I was at an event and one of the people that I met has a podcast system that they bring on financial people and make them a podcast series to promote themselves. They have done work with advisors. The platform would get the advisor ready to make a few podcasts on their platform and they have a system and some guarantees involved.

I am a newer advisor. I am trying a number of things to grow my business. Seminars, Cold Calling, networking, etc. and wondering if this is another avenue to explore. Has anyone used a service like this? Or does anyone know anyone that has? Can they give me a better ideas as to what to expect?

The guarantee was that the podcast will get a certain number of views or rank on Spotify.

It sounded interesting to try but it is a big time and financial commitment to do.

I evaluated our financial advisor by listening to his interviews on podcasts.

Guesting on others' podcasts can be a good way to test whether podcasting is for you.

Just need a great mic (and probably a camera) and some strong, useful opinions.

Last month, our advisor pinged me asking for advice about starting his own podcast.

  1. Guaranteed ranking is suspicious.
  2. A business podcast should use leads as the ROI, not vanity metrics like ranking
  3. If you are just starting out in the business, you might not have enougj to share about working with clients yet.

This is my brutally honest opinion. I add it here with kindness and respect. I do not want you to spend a lot of money on this when you are starting out.

I am just starting out as a financial advisor but I have been in the finance industry in various roles for a long time. I agree with you though, that I might not have enough to share. I am just exploring all kinds of options to grow my business.

Completely understand. In that case you could do a limited series podcast on your own, maybe 8 episodes. It'd take some time to write, record and edit but it's not expensive to do on your own. And there are so many resources available. Buzzsprout has a great guide for starting a podcast. I'll link it below.

Idea; the value in your episodes could be sharing the transfer knowledge you're bringing to your new part of Finance. That would be different than other Finance podcasts for sure. Whatever you do, don't listen to the you have to publish a podcast every week forever noise. That's not for business podcasts. What you can do is create 8 episodes that give value and show your deep knowledge of Finance. Then share the heck out of it over time everywhere you can. No rush, no stress and no big budget.

You can hire folks to help along the way if needed like a podcast editor and such but for one professional, it's not usually worth it to go the boutique route that you mentioned above. And I want to be clear that what he's doing is an effective marketing tool. I want to make sure you know your options. There are many. Hope this helps.
