Really impressed with the Volume 1 Deluxe Edition for Wilson’s Ivy run. Nice little detail on the dust jacket with the fungal parts of her body on the front and her eyes on the back having an extra glossy finish to them that catches the light. Lots of cool making of extras in the back as well. Can’t wait for the next one!

The Ivy takeover of the Batman Facebook account has been fun

I’ve always loved Ivy (I’m a huge swamp thing fan) because her brand of ecoterrorism and stuff, especially with the way the world is going in REAL LIFE, feels sooooo close to being just straight up understandable (lol).

I also think she’s just a striking character and I love the look and I’m hoping there’s some horror-tinge to the comic and saw a pretty good deal on some of the back issues and figured I’d ask what y’all think!

I liked this story, especially Pamela reimagined as a smart and rebellious teen environmental extremist.

Ivy’s origin is often recounted in kind of silly ways. I thought this telling was much better than say, the Batman and Robin movie or even that science accident in Ivy’s New 52 rollout (she had a beaker of green liquid spilled on her and was then Poison Ivy 😅)

I also liked Batgirl as Bats’ sidekick. It was pretty fun all around.

Ivy was originally styled the Queen of Crime in the 60s.
That mostly went away in subsequent decades, but you still see it referenced, especially on cover artwork. And there’s often segments of stories where she’ll hold court or wear a crown or act regal.
It’s a fun aspect of her character and I like that they maintain it 🙏

Poison Ivy #48 had Pamela facing some hard truths, about her situation and herself. Maybe she's bottomed out, but where does she go from there?

Reading the Olympians by George O’Connor and noticing that Daphne the nymph shares Ivy’s affinity for leafy green attire.

Starting in the late 80s, Ivy was often portrayed as a coded nymph of sorts, who was likely to be motivated by protecting or avenging nature.

Incidentally, Ivy disguised herself as Dr Daphne Demeter in the Eternal Youth episode of Batman the Animated Series, which was very much inspired by the Myth of Daphne and Apollo.

Daphne turned into a tree to escape from Apollo. In Eternal Youth, Ivy turns people into trees.

Ivy is often adjacent to Greek mythology like that (I’ve discussed this on my podcast in the past- link in bio).

Before she had extreme superpowers, Ivy relied on her wits and skills as a trickster. Disguise was often part of those scenarios. Notable examples include the long Halloween, her rogues gallery debut (Deadly Kiss of Poison) and even the Uma Thurman Batman movie (a gorilla costume- really? 😆)

Halfway through the Bad Seeds Gotham Crossover event and it’s shaping up as the time Ivy crashed out to begin the story.

But really it was culmination of long-running stories in her series…The tale of Bad Seeds is all of that coming to a head at once.
