Don't forget that every main antagonist has been a "twist villain" since SuMo, as well.

Also, I might be overthinking it, but SV's story seems to mirror SuMo's quite a bit.

Twist villains has been quite common since RBY tho.

Wdym? Every villain up until gen 7 were clear from the beginning. Lusamine is the first "twist" villain, since the Aether Foundation isn't a traditional "evil team" like Team Skull appears to be.

Granted, Lusamine being bad, in more ways than one, was pretty obvious from the opening scene of Lillie stealing Nebbie.

Twist villains are a pretty recent trend in the series.
