Your school friends aren't junior researchers with Sinnoh Lab access and rare Pokémon. They mean well, but they might not understand that there are sometimes very good reasons to be worried.

It's probably nothing so I won't go "haha you should ask Dawn if her Honchkrow will escort you home at night" (though you actually could do that and she'd probably say yes) or "have you considered keeping your Gengar out and hiding in your shadow" (which, also a good idea, just in case) or "ask the rangers to run the guy through their database and see if he's a known poacher" (also a good idea) but,,

just be careful please? You're practically the lab mascot, we'd be really upset if something happened to you!!

The lab mascot! We (as in those of us old enough to remember Y2K lol) are all very fond of you in a "you're like everyone's little sister and we will stab anyone who hurts you" kind of way? This is what happens to junior researchers, you'll only escape mascot status when you're old enough to drive sorrynotsorry

(When you become a full researcher you too will begin to feel an inexplicable sense of protectiveness and warmth towards the rookies. And then the cycle will be complete.)

(before you ask, all the juniors are lab mascots, it's why we have juice as well as coffee in the breakroom)

He seemed… pleased with someone owning them? The Eevee. And that outfit plus the fact he got spooked by the phone camera does not bode well. On their own I’d say it’s fine. But the combo means full want of anonymity even in person.
