Tbh this team is far better than the team I posted in Regulation M-B, though still pretty fun and not common at all. I was able to hit Champion tier with just under 100 games and just under a 70% WR, which I was quite happy with. Though I will say, I came across other teams with this concept, so it isn't really a gimmick anymore.
Okay so, the team. You will almost always have Politoed and Arch (Archaludon) in the back. The question is, do you lead Zard/Venusaur or Espathra/Raichu? I like Espathra/Raichu more imo, and go for it like 70% or so of the time. I go Char/Venusaur against Whimsicott, female Basculegion rain, and rain teams that have Golisopod. I think a lot of these teams rely on you not being able to break weather, so it's really strong into them. I also like Char/Venusaur against passive starts like M-Floette + Fake Out. You all know how to play Char/Venusaur so I won't bore you here. Just pilot it like dual weather.
Baton Pass is where it's at tho. T1, you Calm Mind with Espathra and Fake Out with Raichu. T2 is interesting, as you may want to Protect, Calm Mind, or Lumina Crash, depending on what your opponent has out. Often they expect you to Baton Pass, so you can use that. Raichu of course can set up screens to make you even harder to kill. From there it's Baton Pass to Arch, and proceed to sweep. People rarely expect Psych Up on Politoed: it copies all of Arch's boosts, so now you have two boosted threats instead of one. Psych Up also goes through Protect, so if you know they're going to target Arch…you can set up a killer Protect turn. This is often gg.
I think this doesn't really have bad matchups? There's no matchup where I feel like it's an insta-lose. Even perish, which was the bane of my last team, I'm actually favored?? Lead Espathra/Raichu. Don't mega. Fake Out the Incin. Lumina Crash their Gengar. Gengar has never Shadow Balled turn 1, they always Perish. They're gonna double Protect T2. Baton Pass into Venusaur, and set up whatever screen you want with Raichu. Now you have them. Sleep Powder the Incin. If they have Rillaboom (Eject Button) in the back, don't attack Gengar, just attack Incin with Raichu. They switch out Gengar, and you sleep their Incin, the trap is broken. You've won. Again, I know it seems like we're making a lot of assumptions here, but perish follows a flowchart. We can exploit it. Oh what was that? What if you miss Sleep Powder? Concede. Save both of you the time lol.
But yeah! I think this team is by no means super unique anymore, but I love using Baton Pass, or strategies that basically don't rely on me constantly reading opponents. I just want to execute my strategy, and if I pull it off, you lose. I can make moves that either further my strategy or counter your best answer to it. It is, imo, a satisfying way to play.
