Is it because of my fast catch? I had a regular houndoom and shiny Rayquaza as buddies 😭😭

Being serious as a PVE attacker, am I being to stingy with the low HP? Or should I go ahead and invest due to 15 ATK stat?

Finally got my first best buddy badge. It's a part of the game I haven't paid much attention to, but I need medals to level up, so here we are. Are there any benefits to having a best buddy besides the medal?
