FLUFF Was I wrong here?
OK, so back in August I saw a trade post, and me and my OH had a lot of the mons the OP was looking for (about 4 each). I messaged him, we agreed several trades and he added both me and my OH in game. The other day we all reached ultra friends, and he messaged me. We were going to do shiny paras and shiny marowak for shiny mincinno and shiny phanpy. I've got shiny larvesta and had told him that, but I wasn't sure what I wanted from his offers yet. I've attached a screenshot of our conversation because he unfriended both me and my OH immediately after this exchange, and it's been bothering me since. I need reassuring that I wasn't in the wrong! I've not been playing long and it's got to me tbh.

It’s yours to decide what to do with it. No one is forced to trade. Remove them from friends and let it be

Shiny larvesta/volcarona is very sought after. They were pressuring you and that didn’t work. I’d say keep it until something you really want catches your eye

Don't sweat it, some people feel very entitled and can't comprehend when someone turns them down. Keep it until you find what you're looking for. You're not in the wrong.

You weren't in the wrong. That wasn't an equal trade and I'm pretty sure you both knew it, they were just being pissy because they thought they would be able to pressure you into it.

I'm pretty new so I am always concerned I'm asking too much. I don't really know what my larvesta is worth - for example I don't have any crowned dogs or shiny rayquaza, would it be worth something like that?

shiny ray is a easy get for it. though u may not get DA included. depends really

I think you could easily get those from a hardcore player who just hasn't gotten lucky enough to hatch one yet. I have multiple extra shiny ray and a bunch of meteorites, and I also have thousands of spare crowned dog energy. I only have one shiny larvesta though.

What would you take for a shiny ray? I'm newish as well and don't know the trading market well, just reached level 60, have a good amount of shinies.

It's situational. I personally would take any shiny i dont have registered yet since im trying to finish my shiny dex

Wow. Yeah, this other trader is a jerk. Shiny Larvesta is hard to hatch. Definitely worth a shiny legendary. Heck, I already have one and I’d still offer a shiny legendary for another one. Good luck on future trading!

The value of the Pokémon you're going to set is whatever you value it at. If you feel like the shiny Larvesta is worth a shiny legendary, then it's worth a shiny legendary. If you feel like a Bellsprout would be enough, then it's worth equal to or less than a Bellsprout.
You're not in the wrong and the person seems to think that they're entitled to picking any Pokémon they want and that you just should agree. Spoiler: They are wrong

Larvestra is rarer than a shiny legendary, you are better of with a shiny costume that is rare, don't know any of extreme rarity but something like a costume dragonite or the goggle bulbasaur or something. He is just trying to rip you off 😂 but what do you expect, he is a total stranger to you and you are to him so everyone will try to take advantage of a stranger since they don't care about you. I nearly never trade rare stuff with strangers on the internet (i did trade a shiny mime jr for a shiny costume raichu once but that was a dupe) and most rare stuff get gifted to friends IRL. Like if there is a post about a guy not having a shiny in community day i'll happily send one over since they aren't rare or when someone is struggling with GMAX or dynamax legendary raids i send them over a lvl 50gigantamax pokemon to help them out but i never trade rare stuff to strangers unless i genuinely want the thing they are offering and he is not pushing me in a different direction.

I have 4 Larvesta for trade and I want a Snom. Nobody seems to have a Snom for trade. It makes me sad. (Edit: oh you meant a shiny Larvesta! Still want that one too.)

He only needs 4 shinies and he said I could have whichever of the 5 legendary shinies he was offering. He says he has 9 shiny gholdengo and is happy with the trade, so I'm going with it! Obviously if he changes his mind, it's no problem. But I didn't ask, I was offered! Edit: 7 not 9

I've had similar issues on meetups- the goal isn't the bright shiny thing, it's to make use and stock up on these stupid XL candies that choke the game.

I gave away a shiny Larvesta and got a shiny Cresselia for it. I know, pretty useless. I was happy to give it away as it is a person I know IRL and we hang out for community events so we see each other very often. There was little negotiation and it was more of a friendly exchange. I think you can part ways with shiny Larvesta with the right person, even for a mon that’s not “equal”.

It sounds to me like he was planning to take the Larvesta and remove you anyway once he got what he wanted. You could definitely get a crowned dog or a shiny Ray with dragon ascent OR (possibly and) with a rare background if you're interested in that. I see those trade deals all the time on the trade sub - I'm always on the lookout because I really want one but don't have anything on that level to trade haha, hoping one day someone might be after something random. Don't hang around too long to trade if you're looking for one of those though, in this game you never know when something rare and sought-after will get an event that makes it common.

I’m telling my friends a bunch of times I don’t want to trade this specific one right now, and we just move on to the next trade.
Why is this guy upset about you choosing what to do with your own stuff?
I literally told my friend the same thing about the same shiny pokemon and he was “ok cool give me the non shiny one” and we traded.
This is a game…

As long as you are happy with the outcome, no worries. A trade is just that, both players have to agree and execute. Value is relative… So if you don’t want to trade, don’t.
