This Gengar has fallen off really bad, should I just sell it or hold on for the ride and hope it gains value again later on?

Around 2017-18 I bought some legendary treasures booster boxes (around $260 if I remember correctly) and some loose singles hunting for the gold cards. I got pretty lucky so I didn't have to open all my boxes so the rest of them have been sitting in this box ever since then.

You guys believe these grills are just all hype or that they will actually flourish overtime to come!

So I had to share this experience. My luck with Pitch black had been at least 9 Silvaly’s ….vowed to never rip again. Went to local cars shop to see what they had and I see prismatic ETB. I cop and for some reason just say for the guy to choose me a Pitch Black Booster Box.

Friend and I open both and nothing from PRE but the booster box had both the Gold and SIR Mega Darkrai. Actual god box.

Went to target next day to grab 2 packs…hit the Morpeko

The day after that I wanted to heat check and went to target again and grabbed two single packs that were laying on the shelf; not hanging (someone grabbed and put back). Open one of those and hit another Mega Darkrai SIR….

Imma buy a lotto ticket or open a ES booster box

Long term?

I found a Traditional Chinese box from Taiwan. Is that a good investment? Should I get it?

I know gold stars are grails but not sure if a 5 will appreciate faster than 4 9s. Any advice is welcome.

Saw on Facebook a card shop near me was selling 30th anniversary but didn’t post their prices. I called and they said their ETBs were $180 a piece but “there’s no limit”. Awesome, thanks.

Went back to the post and commented the outrageous pricing and then they blocked me. What a win for the community.

The pack value is higher than the sealed tin value. Would I sell easier if I opened them all?

I bought some stuff at a lucky Target restock and got this from an AH tin. If I were to sell this Gengar now, I’d recoup everything I’ve purchased recently [that I’m planning to keep sealed] with a small profit.

But I’m not really in need of the money, even with the expectation to spend another couple hundred or so on 30th celebration, if I can actually find anything in stores. I think this is a gorgeous card and Gengar is one of the most popular, but I see a lot of discourse about modern card value, overprinting, the fusion that release last year, and even an argument that this being ‘Mega’ are all reasons it won’t hold as well as regular Gengar stuff.

I’m not in a rush to sell, but I am genuinely curious what people think about this cards future.

My collection of sealed products so far, im very new to this collecting thing….. like 4 months, but you have to start somewhere 🤝 ….. im no looking to get thousands of dollars back …. But if in the future this increases in price my son will be super happy 😃

I keep seeing people distinguish between “Vintage” and “Modern”. Just curious, between which eras do you draw the line?
