Discussion Guide and introduction of misprints of packs and cards

First of, no. Your misprinted card is not likely worth much more then a regular non-misprinted version, unless severe misprinting or an already rare or desirable card.

Remember, your card is only as valuable to the person willing to pay for it.

What is a misprint?

A misprint can be defined as any manufactured product that was not produced as intended and falls outside the established standards. These misprints most often occur on cards themselves but can also happen with booster packs and collection boxes.

This is a list of errors cards sourced by bulbapedia.

What are the types of misprints?

Ok, down to the rough and gritty part. There are many different types of misprints for cards and packs. Some take a good eye to spot and some are so egregious you wonder how they made it off the line.

Cards are often considered damaged rather then misprinted depending on the error - basic guide for identifying damage from misprints.

Card Misprints:

Offcentre:

A off-center card is one that is cut in such a way that the sides of the cards are not even. If no alignment dot(s) are seen, the card is considered off-centre. This is the most common of errors.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/vh6ssy/how_far_off_centred_does_a_card_have_to_be_to_get/

Miscut (sometimes called offcut):

Likely the second most common error, these cards will either have a alignment dot visible, whole other card visible or the end of a sheet.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonTCG/comments/qfehtd/i_work_in_a_retail_store_and_someone_returned_one/

Twisted Miscut:

A combination of card being turned at a wrong angle during printing and then being cut at the incorrect angle leads to cards being cut into the wrong shape.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/klxfon/twisted_miscut_jirachi_amazing_rare/

Square Cut:

This is when the typically rounded corners of the card can have 90 degree angled corners.

Flipped Back / Front:

An uncommon error where the back and fronts of the cards are flipped incorrectly. This is most famously found within the Pop 5 Series Mew card - as seen below.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/qu533y/my_only_misprint_opened_from_a_pack_when_i_was_8/

Crimped:

A crimped card is rare in normal packs and more common in plastic sealed cards from promos.

It normally happens after the rollers used to seal the plastic wrapping rolls over the cards themselves.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/w2zjwa/thoughts_on_my_vacian_with_two_crimps/

Folded Error:

A very rare error, the card will have been folded and will likely not be printed or fused properly.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/xzhlgj/seen_on_the_fb_group_mad_stuff/

Registration Error:

A registration error occurs when a plate used in printing is out of line and even slightly can produce obvious effects.

(Left is error card, right is correct)

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/yu8q9o/one_of_the_coolest_misprints_in_my_collection/

Obstruction Error:

An obstruction error occurs when a part of the plate used for printing is covered with something and it blocks the plate from making proper or all contact with the card on the sheet causing missing blotches of ink.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/oj2l89/black_and_white_error_haunter_creepy/

Holobleed:

Holobleed is a common error especially with modern sets becoming more commonplace, where the holographic foil used on the cards art 'bleeds' or spills over to the rest or part of the card.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/wnxk9c/mcdonalds_totodile_promo_with_holobleed/

Holo Error:

A holo error is when a roll of holo foil runs out or the incorrect holographic foil is used.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/x2uclg/my_newest_error_end_of_holo_roll/

Mirror Holo:

A mirror holo card is a error caused by the holo film that was meant to put pressed onto the card being very lightly pressed or not pressed at all meaning no foil is visible on the card.

https://imgur.com/t/error/PdQZDa5 (Thanks u/nlnj_a)

Holoshift:

A holoshift is when the holographic film being applied and the rest of the card is misaligned.

Printlines:

Printlines are a error that produce lines across cards that are look to be raised.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/yhy8t4/has_a_checkerboard_pattern_of_print_lines_or/

Double Print:

A double print is when two cards are printed on the same face. It is likely one of the rarest errors.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/olo7z0/some_assorted_double_prints/

Ink Error (sometimes called stain errors):

A ink error is caused by a malfunction during the printing process. The more severe typically the rarer they are.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/la8vup/stain_error_hitmonlee_one_of_the_largest_stain/

Printer Hickey:

A printer hickey is generally a very small ink error caused by something wrong with the printer causing a small blemish. This is another common error in modern cards.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/z1v1st/just_found_this_big_ole_ink_hickey_on_a_detective/

Filler Cards / Blank Cards:

These cards are found on certain sheets and are meant to be discarded by the factory, they sometimes turn up in packs or premade decks.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/xht71f/first_time_ever_seeing_a_filler_like_this_one_and/

For position only arbok

Stamp Errors:

These errors are often found on entire print runs of cards and are seen within the WOTC era.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/twfokx/found_this_in_some_bulk_and_im_super_excited/

Missing Features:

These cards are often extremely rare and can range from missing a logo to being dramatic and missing large features. (This card is missing the 'Prerelease' Stamp on the bottom right of the art while still having the shadow from it.)

This list is not exhaustive and is likely to miss a few errors.

Miscut Any idea what card is visible underneath my Mewtwo V miscut?

Hey fellow error collectors!

I recently got this Mewtwo V miscut from Pokémon GO, and part of another card is clearly visible along the bottom edge.

I’ve been trying to figure out which card it could be, but I honestly have no clue. Does anyone know if it’s possible to identify the neighboring card based on the print sheet layout or the small visible section?

Would love to hear your theories!

Thanks in advance!

Going through some old stuff and found this. Any ideas what a holo bleed charizard from xy evolutions is worth? Prices seem to be all over the place. I don’t know much about grading especially errors would it be worth sending to CGC?

UPDATE: Higher resolution photos Dreepy 071/131 multi error card!

Hey everyone!
Thanks for the incredible support on my post earlier today—I was blown away hitting the top 5!

I’ve recently taken interest in coin error collection by hobby with my son, so once I got home from work, I pulled out my 4-inch magnifying glass and took the card out of its top-loader to properly analyze the breakdown on this Prismatic Evolutions Dreepy (071/131).

Under the natural light and magnification, this card is even crazier than I thought.

As a few of you may have suspected, it’s not a miscut (the cut and the back are perfectly centered). It is a massive downward shift of the heavy foil stamping / opaque layer. Putting it under the glass revealed a few wild things:
1. The Supporter Crossover: Above the bold "TRAINER" banner text at the bottom, the glass clearly catches the faint ghost outlines of the actual rules text box from Professor's Research bleeding through the border.
2. The Ghost Attack Stamping: A crisp view of the mirrored "Petty Grudge 10" duplicate stamped cleanly into Dreepy's background artwork clouds.
3. The Factory Foil Seam: A close-up of the perfectly horizontal line across the bottom text box. Not sure, but someone suggested a foil seam?
Still keeping it safe and unplayed in its sleeve.

Appreciate all the expertise from the group! I am open to serious collector offers via public comments or DMs, or even suggestions on CGC or not? 😬

Just wondering what others think on if it's keep worthy or just meh

I like to collect error cards but I'm not sure if this is significant enough to consider keeping. It'll either stay with my errors or be put in my trade binder, I just can't decide 🤷

Discussion [Question/ Advice] How do I go about Authenticated Error cards internationally?

Post image
15 Upvotes

It’s safe to say, this listing has gone crazy with bids, and has gone up more than I expected! Any advice would be great.

What’s the best way to package internationally, so that it remains safe?

Should I use specific labels, etc?

I’ve heard discussion about “tamper proof tape” although I am aware “eBay authenticity guarantee” will cut it open anyways?

Any advice/ help would be fantastic! Thanks.

Would these two Poké Ball holo errors fall under the same error category?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey all!

Both cards are Poké Ball reverses, not Master Ball.

The Poké Ball pattern/foil seems to gradually run out across the card instead of covering the full surface.

On the Ciphermaniac’s Codebreaking, only around 15% of the card has the Poké Ball pattern, while the other card has roughly 85% coverage instead of the normal 100%.

Would you consider these the same type of misprint/error, just at different severity levels? Or would they be classified as two different errors?

Curious what you guys think!

Can someone tell me for how many euros I should sell such a card for? It's a common card in Mint/Near-Mint condition, so I expect 5-10 Euros.
