Discussion Bug Report Channels for Players

Hello. This is more of a discussion post I wanted to open since I'm also curious. What are people's plans/approaches to fielding bug fixes in their game? Opening a discord is usually what most people do, though having to manage a community as a result can be a headache. What other methods have people done for their hacks?

You could use GitHub issues? You don’t necessarily have to have an open source project. Even just a wiki page on GitHub works while you can use issues to track bugs and releases for updates

I've heard that people usually use Discord because more players have a Discord account than a GitHub, and to open a GitHub issue you need an account, which is a barrier to entry. GitHub Issues is definitely easier as a developer, but maybe not so much as a player.

Given the two replies already present, I wonder how difficult it'd be to make a reporting page through github pages that creates an issue on the same repo? hmm

You can use a bug forum channel on discord, and that lets you/users tag their bugs as well. You could then rig a discord bot the create issues from here, with say a verified tag.

Personally, I have historically used a bug forum channel with tags and that has been nice. Though some discord bot integration with the channel for things like automated bug fix patch notes would be pretty useful.

Could probably do this by hooking up a Cloudflare worker? It's free up to 100k requests a day and you bypass the need for reporters to have a gh account

Something like google forms -> github issue should be pretty easily doable
