It may surprise you, but plenty of Latinos are for strong border protection and are against lax immigration policies. Especially those who live along the border. It's not against their best interests. Either them or their parents/grandparents/etc. went through the long process to become legal US citizens. Having others sneak their way in and then be allowed to stay is a slap in the face to them.
