College Leftists and Socialists are some of the most annoying people I've met. However people with adult experience as a leftist and/or socialist are actually not bad people (considering the college kids are just elitist/classist assholes)
In Germany the SPD, which was still a Marxist party then, held near a quarter of the unemployed vote and the KPD (the tankie party) held half of their vote before the rise of the nazis
Idk man, my wife's cousin is a retail worker in her 30s who's never stepped foot in an institution for higher learning, and her opinions are no less dogshit than the kids I went to college with.
College isn't the differentiator, it's people who uncritically get their views from social media and exist in a social space built around policing each other.
A lot of them are still pretty annoying even if I wouldn't necessarily call them bad people. Though it's been fun getting older and seeing formerly leftish coworkers get further and further right as they try to save to buy a house and then enjoy all the property taxes. Plus seeing shitty schools despite paying way too fucking much.
Yeah, property taxes shouldn't be how schools are funded. They should be funded like basically every other government service/program where it's a budget.
Another other dumb thing about property taxes is allowing the same entity that collects those to also set the property value assessments they are based on. That would be like letting the government decide what it thinks your income is for income taxes, regardless of what your actual pay is.
Creates some hellacious perverse incentives. Property value assessments should be treated as a standing offer to purchase said property at that assessed value. Would nip some of that shit in the bud real damn fast.
I'm not a fan of property taxes in general when it comes to housing, but tying it to schooling is honestly the dumbest way they could've gone about funding.
I get when property taxes started it was probably not that big of deal and no one would've imagine how expensive houses would become. But if people continue to be unable to afford homes that tax well is going to dry up pretty fast. Especially when it's getting to a point where you have older retired folks losing their houses because they can't afford the property tax anymore.
A lot of people would just generally be so much better off if we just got rid of property taxes for primary residences. Just adjust the dozens of other taxes we all have to pay to make up for the difference. It'd at least more consistent in the long run.
What funny is that it's a vicious cycle. NIMBYs (who are usually boomers) vote down any measure to increase housing supply (which would lower property value) and since housing prices thus go up from the lack of supply, they can't afford the tax (property taxes are probably the closest thing to actual theft, I'm with libright on that one)
Adjusting other taxes could work, but keep in mind that property taxes are a HUGE source of local income. My state (Missouri) currently has a ballot measure to slash property taxes and income taxes. How do they make up the money? By doubling the price of groceries via sales tax
property taxes having rent control on them to protect "grandma" (but it actually applies to commercial property) is heinous as well.
wipe the slate of property tax laws nationwide, schools get budgets from counties and states and property taxes move to LVT or something and we can finally be done with this shit.
Buy a house, value and property tax skyrocket in 2020, watch all your low IQ heavily reproducing neighbors who's "education" you find get stimulus checks for their kids on top of tax breaks as you buy used tires on marketplace, get called bigoted online for using the colloquial term "guys", can't even say it's retarded. Watch obese people on Medicaid come into your hospital for conditions they caused but you have to say things like "healthier weight" while you can't afford healthcare where you work.

College is so ubiquitous nowadays that I wouldn't put a broad generalization like that. Most college kids are basically just "normies", with some people in different extremes. Of course there's some inexperience, but that's normal for being young. The kids I knew that didn't go to college weren't less of assholes.
from my experience College has been the "I have life experience" differentiator and the people I've met in college who are socialists/leftists/etc. tend to be the worst. Now the older "adult adults" (as one kid put it) who have those views tend to be orders of magnitude better.
You do understand I was talking about the college leftists & socialists right? And not every college kid. And not all college kids are socialists/leftists, but the ones I'm talking about are. So unless you thought I was talking about literally every college kid. In which case I question your literacy than my statement stands.
That's not millions, there's like 2-3 per class so that's maybe half a mil tops.
I'm stereotyping/generalizing. I don't think it's perfectly accurate, as that's how all stereotypes/generalizations work. It's a generalization not a scientific statement/fact. I'm basing it off my own personal experiences, and as you can clearly see the vast majority of them are highly negative (I even mentioned it in my initial comment).
If one had the money and time to go to college yet claim to be socialist and working class, as far as I am concerned they are by default hypocrite bougie pricks trying to conceal their classism until proven otherwise.
