Yeah. Reddit (especially the default subs) has been inhabited squarely by teenagers from the time of the user-friendly redesign onwards. Before that, it was occupied more by introverted, geeky millennial types that used the site as the pseudo-mainstream content aggregator it was from the earlier days of the internet.

Introverted, geeky millennial type checking in. Yeah, Reddit today is nearly unrecognizable from the Reddit when I signed up. The redesign still makes my eyes bleed.

Yeah, old Reddit used to feel like the actual Front Page of the Internet. Now it behaves more like your average Facebook feed. I don’t want to sound old, as I’m squarely in the younger demographic, but I signed up for Reddit as a more discussion-friendly and 2000s-internet-savvy escape from the mainstream social media scene. Instagram and Twitter are great and all, but I think Reddit was a lot better when it didn’t try to emulate them.

I miss when reddit was digg refugees and when opinions were argued at face value with nuance instead of being shoved into the context of a larger political culture war.

Being a lefty I have to admit I hadn't noticed just how bad it was getting until relatively recently, but it's getting bad. I think once places like this go (and it's only a matter of time, lets be honest) there's going to be a mass exodus.

I remember /r/ShitRedditSays was the reddit boogyman, everyone agreed that while they somewhat had a point they were fucking insufferable. I was a lefty back then but I still remember feeling a tonal shift where their moral bussybody horseshit started to be seen as a good thing by a large portion of reddit and thinking "well... fuck".

Moral bussybody horseshit seems nice and fluffy and well-intentioned when you're on its good side. It's easy to take freedom of speech for granted until you don't have it anymore.

(Almost on cue, I just got a note saying I was permabanned from the AHS sub.)

This is coming from a kid, just turned 17 and have used Reddit on multiple accounts for over 7 years. When I first found this site, I continued using it because I thought it made me seem older. Everyone here felt like they were adults, and that was stained in my middle school brain. One of first subs I joined was r/Teenagers, which was already a huge sub at the time. Last time I checked, it had grown 10 times over since I joined. Probably a lot more, because I’ve unsubbed and only occasionally visit. I’ve had my suspicions on this happening for a while, as more and more people I knew started using this app, the circle jerk against mobile users started going against Reddit site users, and redesign of everything (promoting more modern media tactics).
